LMAO. Awesome.
I remember when my oldest was little I took him to the gyma few times. If I left him in the children's play area he'd just yell across the gym for me the whole time, so I'd let him sit on the floor next to me and count my reps.
He was such a cute kid. He's 22 now. Dayum I'm old.

* Page Bump * Week 1: Hybrid Phase, Day 5
Delts w/calves
...it was written.
warm up:- standing DB presses, 1 x 15
- DB squats, 1 x 10
- DB RDLs, 1 x 10
- standing DB curls, 1 x 10
- leg extensions, 1 x 12
- lying leg curls, 1 x 10
- pull ups, 1 x 10
- dips, 1 x 10
- hyperextensions, 1 x 10
DELTS/TRAPS/CALVES (Pt. 2...more on that later)
Standing BB OHPs
bar x 10 wu
95 x 5
135 x 5
160 x 3
185 x 2 --- back to pre-midback FUBAR levels
I could have probably gone up a bit more, but that was hardly the point. I only did two reps because the first rep wasn't up to standards - but it was good to get back to where I belong on these. Much work needs to be done for sure, but I did my job to claw back up a steep hill.
Single-arm DB clean & press
60 x 5 / 60 x 5
70 x 4 / 70 x 4
75 x 3 / 75 x 3 --- +5 lbs
Seated laterals SS w/standing BB BNP
42.5 x 10 / 95 x 10
42.5 x 10 / 95 x 10
42.5 x 10 / 95 x 10 --- + 7.5 lbs
--- when being a gym sluggard pays off; I didn't want to want to walk clear across the gym to get the 40s and the 42s were right there
Behind the back shrugs
155 x 20
245 x 15
335 x 10 --- back to pre-midback FUBAR levels
Recumbant heel raises SS w/standing cable front raises
170 x 20 / 30 x 10
190 x 20 / 35 x 10
210 x 15 / 40 x 10
Seated heel raises SS w/standing cable front raises, pt 2
2 plates x 20 / 45 x 10
2 plates x 20 / 50 x 10
2 plates x 20 / 40 x 10
Maybe something was in the water, I don't know... Calf loads were the usual, but reps were up everywhere across all sets. Also, I don't really track PRs on cables, because - well, they're cables. But still my form was typically breaking at 40, so the working load has been around 35. But today, I just kept adding a plate with each set with no drop off in performance.

--> Machine dips
--- 170 x 12

Nearly a perfect workout. Plenty of energy from beginning to end. No aches or pains worth mentioning. Just a great way to end this week of training. What really has me shaking my head is that this was the 2nd day in a row that I did (or attempted) this workout, so I really didn't see today's performance coming (see the WTF below).
Impressions:
Is This Real Life?/WTF? Gym Moment of the Day:
I barely have the patience to relay what happened in any type of story format, so these are just the facts:
* The wife was still out of town, and the kid was up early, so I took him along to the mom-and-pop gym...
* Some guy I didn't know came in - clearly someone that worked there - and started with the "40-questions" bit. Turns out that he's the new owner and he didn't recognize me. I show him my gym card, drop some names, but he still says that he doesn't recognize my name from the last gym roster. I tell him that I'm paying somebody each month and my card is legit, so I don't understand the issue, blah, blah... The guy leaves, then comes back with a new contract - which I refuse to sign. To make a long story short, he is going to recheck the roster and I'm going to bring evidence of payment to help connect the dots. But as you can see, this is a LOT of talking, and not much WORKING OUT. Fuarrrkkk....
* Next thing I know, clients and trainers start to infiltrate the gym basement after I finally rid myself of the accountant/owner. * sigh * At that point I gather the kid and his stuff and just leave...
* The work (not that it matters)...
- the usual warm up
- set up the "kiddie circuit"
- Heavy bag: 3 + 5 punch combinations x 3
(I'm no FIM in the ring, but my jab has a lot more snap than earlier in the year; another sign that the shoulder is a LOT better)
Standing BB OHPs
bar x 10 wu
95 x 5
135 x 5
155 x 5
175 x 4 --- interruption #1
Seated DB presses
60 x 10
70 x 10
80 x .. --- interruption #2
Seated laterals SS w/standing BB BNP
35 x 10 / mystery preset BB x 10
35 x 10 / mystery preset BB x 10
... a gaggle of clients + trainers arrive

Thanks for the shout out brother. And, as you know, whole-heartedly approve of the bag work.
The rest of the work has been your usual awesome sessions my friend. Well done, as always, with tremendous pics that are beyond spot-on.
As for the pic (and time) with the little one...outstanding.
As for the most recent cluster-f*ck with the jacka*s "new owner"...sigh.

As a bit of a digression, a new arrival recently was placed in my mailbox which I've been playing the hell out of. It dawned on me that you would appreciate it as well my brother.
It took me a while to track down and acquire this one, but sweet mother, how worth the time and effort it was.
Enjoy brother. By the way, I've posted stuff from him from time to time in my own journal, but anything by Gregory Porter is amazing. He's got a few releases of his own out, with "Be Good" being absolutely mind-blowing. Very much worth putting on the short list my friend.
Hope all is well.

He's on pace to taller than both mom or dad, so I don't doubt your glimpse of the future.
Thanks for the props on the pics and the work. Yeah, the bag work felt good, I may need to step it up a bit on that front (and give the treadmill a break).
And, yes, the gym owner thing was unfortunate - we'll see how that pans out...

I don't understand how waving THE gym card is not enough? Would love to know how many people REALLY sneak into gyms to workout? I hope he apologizes to you and for wasting your time.
Love the pic! He will treasure that moment and carry it around in his wallet ..that pays for his gym membership
Great work MHL! Am also interested to hear of your low bar Back Squats experiment.
How do you rate standing leg curls against sitting? Just curious because I don't like the machine I'm using, prefer the Lying down one(don't have in this gym) but haven't tried standing - we have a glute/hip machine..

Damn, that felt good. I actually got a bit nauseous towards the end and refunded a bit in the car, but it sounds worse than it was - it was no big deal, and I felt good about the work that got logged in today.
I finished up the workout, and then headed to the office to handle some last minute items before rushing home to tend to more storm prep and tend to a sick kid.
Perspective is everything.

Thanks Boom; this weather has a way of making you find time where none existed before...priorities, right?
Ha! I guess that I'm not rusted out just yet.
Most def...they are on the review list.
Well, the whole thing reminds me of my kid in school. He's good in language in general, but he's learning a foreign language and his standard English at the same time. As a result, kids tend to slow down in their English progress in the beginning, but end up ahead of the game down the road (or that's the idea, anyway).
It seems to be the same deal with the low bar squats. They're kinda' an 'add on' exercise right now, and I think that I would need to really spend more time on them to really ramp up things to the previous levels in the near term. As far as how they feel right now, I am surprised that my low back has been in check so far. That may change if I get back to the 400s, but that won't be in the cards for a while.
But even at the current modest weight, the posterior chain is getting just the work that it needs (especially since that doesn't happen with front squats.)
Thanks - will be cashing 'em in around 5 PM tonight.
Ah, the Brotherhood comes through again...
Hey, Cmoore - you know a thing or two about that type of work!
Yeah, they're holding up well - especially in comparison to the outta' shape gym owner.
Hey, Ms. L! the standing option is mostly just a change up for me in comparison to the lying variety; it also allows me to place more emphasis on the weaker leg in straightforward manner.
To me, the movement only differs if the machine causes greater hip flexion position; my take on the seated versus the lying variety (since it speaks to hip positioning) is here:

Thanks for the info. I have one other gripe with the seated Life Fitness leg curl machine and that is even if I adjust the back support part of the seat forward...little legs my back is not supported at all. Meh, yeah I hate this thing lol
Nice workout BTW despite the nausea
