It is of great regret that Westside must announce that AJ Roberts has retired from Powerlifting and foremost from Westside Barbell. AJ came along way in 3 short years coming here with a 2400lbs total with 1000lbs squat and 705lbs bench press. And leaving with a 1205lbs squat, 910lbs Bench Press and an 815lbs deadlift, 3 total world records and ending with a 2855lbs total and all his best lifts add up to 2930lbs at 308lbs bodyweight. We know we can replace your numbers on the record board but we can never replace you and your contributions to Westside.
Good luck AJ in finding what is right for you and Gracie.

People on another forum say he's still lifting, and he's moving for more money. Apparently he does marketing on the internets and is pretty good at it too.

Also, I don't see why Louie says "foremost from Westside" which seems to imply Westside is bigger than powerlifting in general. Maybe I'm just being nitpicky.

Just because he's "retired" doesn't mean he's not lifting anymore and doesn't mean he wont compete again.

From what I can gather, he was offered more money out there. They have a good gym close to them and will continue to train.

I wonder if he was talking about the World's Gym in Pacific Beach. They have a monolift and a couple specialty bars, but it's still a commercial gym with all the typical bull****. It will definitely be a far cry different from training at Westside.

It could be. The way Gracie was talking it had all the necessary equipment, but it didn't sound like a hardcore place.

Only Louie knows exactly why he phrased it the way he did. But I took it as Westside is losing out more here then the rest of the powerlifting world. They are losing a great guy and strong lifter. They put in a lot of work together.

Well, hopefully he comes out here, realizes there aren't any good places to train, and decides to open his own little project gym on the side. That would be awesome since I'm less than 10 mins from La Jolla.

I think he lifts at Lexen. Or one of the other epic Ohio gyms.
Some of the lifters also train at other gyms from time to time I believe.

No, I train at the Dogg House. And like bmont said, we swap a lot. AJ and Gracie used to come in on bench days, Chuck V comes in on Sundays about half the time, John Brown is a regular, and some of our guys squat at WS on Saturdays.
