I'm fine with the rounds idea. I'd prefer that we have the choice of what positions we want to keep though, and for as long as we want. I don't want to be forced to keep so many pitchers if I feel my batting is worth more, I can get better results with pitching in the next draft anyway.

That's not really what I meant.
What I mean is I think we should have to have some keepers of mid-level players as well as high-level players.
If everyone is just keeping the first 5 players they draft from this years draft (which is likely what will happen, or at least very close to the first 5 picks) then it just becomes sh*tty.
It's a lot more fun when you're forced to pick between players who are on the same playing level and lose the others you don't pick.
Say you have Wright and Utley on your team, the Keeper aspect becomes more important if you can only have one of them and are forced to return the other to the pool of players. But if you're trying to decide between David Wright and Yunel Escobar I think the result is pretty clear. The keeper decision becomes way too easy if you're not having to discard players who are more or less on the same playing level as each other than if you're allowed to just discard all of the mid-level playing guys.
If you're allowed to keep all of your good players though then the 2nd year draft almost becomes irrelevant. Who exactly are you even gonna be drafting at that point that could have a real impact for you? Might as well just make the keeper league a 1 time draft and you keep you're whole team.

Basically, I don't think the keeper decision should be as unambiguous as taking the best off your team.
If you do it by rounds the ambiguity of having to choose between which top level player is most important for your team is heightened, same for which mid-level guy you need the most, etc.
The keeper option is too cut and dry if you can just take the best 5. You need to be able to make mistakes when you're making your picks for the coming year.

Yes, but what if you draft a guy in the later rounds that has a breakout year? That's likely to happen to most of us. You're assuming that every player is going to play by the rankings. If that was the case then sure I know what you're trying to say but just because we have the opportunity to keep any player we want it doesn't mean we will (keep the top 5 players drafted).
IMO in a keeper league there should be an emphasis on building and improving your team each year around the guys you already have. That's just my opinion though.Leafs, Raptors, Jays, umad?

There's little room for improvement when everyone has no problem picking out their 5 best players. Your teams talent becomes more set in stone that way. If you want building and improving, the rounds idea works much better.
And there's few breakout players (really none) in rounds 10+ who are going to have such a impact year to make you drop off one your players from the first 5 rounds or so.

I agree that there won't be any keepers in the later rounds but in round 5-8 there will be a lot of guys that have great seasons. Assuming each team is around 15 players big, 5 players shouldn't make a huge difference. It will pretty much a lock that most managers will keep the players in the first three or so rounds, but after that it's pretty close.
Or we can integrate both sides of the plain and say everyone gets 2 keepers from the first 4 rounds, 2 keepers from the next 4 rounds and 1 keeper from the remaining rounds? (and position doesn't matter). I think what's bothering me the most is the idea of being able to keep only 1 guy from the first few rounds. That way teams will be so different each year.Leafs, Raptors, Jays, umad?

This is basically the rounds idea you've just altered how many we get in each section. Im just fine with it like this.
I just don't want the keeper part of all this to be so easy. I think it should be more of a challenge to figure out which players to keep.
This example would work for me because you're still making a tougher decision on who of the first 4 rounds you need the most. And I like that.

I would agree to up the players kept in the first 4-5 rounds being 2 instead of 1.
2 players rounds 4-5
2 players from 6-10
and then 1-3 players from rest of the draft OR a waiver wire pick up.100% legit poster, no longer a troll. (dead serious)

hey all, as far as keepers go i think it should be:
5 total
(first year rule only) - 2 keepers must be from round 1-5 in this years draft, other 3 are up to you. I think this will help reward people that draft well early rather then guys that get players just off the wavier wire.
after the first year you just keep any 5 on your team that you want.Inch by Inch is a Sinch

Just to put my opinion on record. I would prefer to keep ANY 4-5 players we want but I will go with the majority.

Keep 6 : Must be split (2 hitter, 2 pitcher, 1 h/b then 1 FA keeper) - Votes 1 (Max~Power)
Keep 5: 2 from rounds 1-4, 2 from rounds 5-10, 1 from 10+ - Votes 1 - Votes
