I agree that some take it pretty far, but it's because we take a great deal of pride in what we do.

Good firefighters spend an unbelievable amount of time preparing and training for the calls that we will eventually run. We are proud of what we do, and many like to show it. Nothing wrong with being proud of serving your community.

If they are using it as a way to get free food or something, that's different. Pretty douchey. Most of the time it's harmless though.

Lol, my two younger brothers did this. The older one got back from his first tour and stopped. Then the youngest started, got back and stopped.

I get it but yea. They'd wash there uniforms just so they could wear it to the store etc. I was fine with it though, that's their thing but I get what you're saying for sure. A little eye rollie at times

Yeah, me. I spent 3 years as a firefighter and, except for the rare fire of any size, was bored as phuck. Loved all my years on an ambulance, though.

In here, being a firefighter is not a job, they do it for free and take great pride in doing it. In a poll, People of my country were asked "what is the institution most respected for you". Firefighters won by far. I have mad respect for them.

The way you can tell is because they're always wearing some shirt that says they are firefighters, and they'd just stack an entire basket full of steaks hamburger meat hotdogs buns condiments etc etc.

I'd say pride. Most people dont know what it even takes to become a fireman. Not even talking about the physical and mental aspect of the job but actually getting hired. Going through the process with hundreds if not thousands of other applicants and having to have one of the best scores. Then have one of the best interviews, then pass the physical, the background, the drug test, the psychiatric test, the chiefs interview,then pass a year of probation. There is a lot more to the job then people know or realize. No we do not "put our lives on the line every day" not even close lol. I wouldnt say Fireman "love themselves" most have been through a lot to get to where they are and we are proud to wear that badge over our hearts or that sticker on our rig that we busted our a$$ for to earn the title.

Yea every station in our dept has a gym. Some better then others but they all have equipment to work out with. Were required to work out an hour every morning as a crew and then once our daily training and stuff we have to get done for the day is completed we can lift whenever we want in between calls.
