    What's the point of deadlifting?

I don't see why it's such a popular exercise, and a compound that everyone seems to do.

I go 3 times a week, and I have full body workouts 3 times a week. I do bench, I squat, I do dips, pullups, step ups, lunges, tricep pushdowns, leg extensions and leg curls, calf raises, shoulder press, lateral pulldown machine (not sure, I pull the bar down for my back.)

What's the benefits of doing deadlifts. I have slight scoliosis, which is why I'm worried to do it for my back. Are there other ways to work out lower back like the deadlift does, without needed as strict form?

What is the point of deadlifting, is what I am wondering. It looks kinda silly and I feel as if it's not as important as say squatting, and benching, as compounds.

Times 2 on the biceps, and you'll feel like a hoss when you slam all that weight back down on the floor after your 3rd. (whatever...fourth...seventh) set...deads are addictive.

My back was like crap. Until I deadlifted. Deadlifts also improve grip strength significantly and helps your pull-ups.

Deadlifts are arguably the most relevant exercise you can do. If you think of exercise as having function in daily life, then increasing your ability to pick weight up off the floor is the most logical thing you can do since it's what you'll probably do most of in your life.

If u have no pain of any kind-if u can do it properly if u decide to deadlift, deads and some of its variants can help with strengthening your whole back.Good, big tight muscle around bones is a plus here.

Yep. From a power lifting viewpoint they are far inferior to other movements if your goal is to progress on your olympic lifts. From a body building view point they put an unnatural stress on your knee and are most likely used toward the end of a workout as a 'finisher', which is useless in and of itself.

If I overheard you in the gym telling someone how useless deadlifts were and then saw you go over and pump out some leg extensions I'd think you were a complete idiot.

Deadlifting 400+ will thicken triceps and also thicken biceps and also thicken hands.

Thats quite the irrelvent statement pertaining to what I said.

However, in powerlifting I can see that leg extensions are not much of a focus for you. But leg extensions do have their benefits. So.. saying they have no point isn't a very good statement to be making.

They work two different muscle groups... hamstrings should not be neglected, although alot of people don't care to work them and wonder why they have injuries from muscle imbalances.

I understand that and do stiff leg deads to work the hammies. Just hate the leg curl machine.

    This ^^^

I had lower back pain from lifting stuff at work....wouldn't you know it, i started dead lifting even heavier weights and my back pain went away completely.

That and it makes my legs bigger, my back stronger, and my grip better. Whats not to love about them?

I hear ya Bro ! same for me. I only hit the dead lifts and squats about once a fortnight with light weights on the assisted machine, and only do about 8-10 reps. Last thing you want to do is injure yourself that will put you out of the gym for a few months.
