    Non GMO Whey Protein Powder

Hey guys, I prefer to keep all GMO foods out of my diet, which while eating clean whole food is fairly easy to avoid. However, to get my protein grams up to where they need to be I prefer to add in protein (whey) shakes. I am looking for a non GMO whey protein powder. Thoughts? What brands have you tried and been happy with both taste & performance? Thanks in advance

Well I know that ON is owned by Glanbia and that is Kosher. I don't know Kosher laws, but I would consider GMO to be "not kosher"

you will absorb more protein from 20g of chicken, appose to 20g of whey. she said she wants to up her protein to where it should be by using whey. In my opinion meats would be a much better option.

whey is the most bio available yes. However chicken protein will digest more slowly allowing the broken down amino acids to be infused gradually. I don't have any scientific literature. You can only digest so much protein within an hour. by chicken taking longer to digest over the time frame more protein is utilized. this may be one reason why there are more protein shakes on the market that are mixed with an isolates concentrates and caseinates.

    Wut?!?

You do realize that your body is going to absorb all the protein you ingest right? Protein digests, breaks down to amino acids, runs through your system, gets utilized for protein synthesis and what it can't use for protein synthesis it will convert to energy to be used or stored in the body (ketones and glucose). Basically it all needs to be absorbed for it to be disposed.

Are we talking about absorption or digestion as far as "all." Where does the body store unused protein? In the gut? Seems weird for it to do that.

I'm talking about absorption since JKing was saying that the body can not absorb all the protein we ingest.

Digestion is another kettle of fish and varies with the amount of stuff which is sitting in our gut, the type of stuff, gut environment, etc.

All other variable held constant, te differences in muscle protein synthesis and body composition will be almost identicle in people getting their protein from 100% whey and people getting it from 100% whole foods

I missed the part where she asked your opinion on whether she should worry about GMOs in the first place.

It seems pretty clear she is only asking where to get non-GMO protein. Not whether or not getting it is a goal she should be pursuing in the first place.

"Where can I get peanut butter flavored protein?"
"Don't get peanut butter flavored protein. Get vanilla instead."
    * thread proceeds to be an entirely off-topic argument over peanut butter vs. vanilla, not coming close to actually, you know, answering the OPs actual question.*

I don't remember seeing the rule where we have to post in a certain way. Can you point it out to me Forum Cop? Last I checked we all have the freedom to basically say what we want and give our opinions however we please. If I think something is nonsensical, like your postings, I have the freedom to say so. If you don't like it, either whine like a crybaby, or ignore it. You should have just chosen the latter.

Is my syntax ok here? I mean that informal diction really demands precise grammar. /facepalm

What brands have you tried and been happy with both taste & performance? Thanks in advance
Bluebonnet makes an good whey isolate that is close to Non-GMO. If it makes a difference to you, it is sourced from grass fed cows and claims "Not treated with rBGH or antibiotics". Also flavored with sevia, no artificial colors. Not the cheapest isolate on the market, but much less expensive than a $60 bottle of organic whey that Whole Foods will sell.

Whats the harm in trying to avoid crap? Im all for non-gmo, no artificial colorings/preservatives.

Check SAN Raw Fusion, its not whey but you may want to try it.

NOW Foods has Pea Protein and Soy Protein Isolate that are both non-GMO. Would personally get unflavored if it's from NOW. I use Carbo Gain unflavored and you can't even tell it's in your drink. Can't go wrong with any products from that company though.

Otherwise look for vegetable-base proteins like raw fusion or garden of life. There's also non-GMO hemp proteins out there too.
