Arrow I'm getting tired of police, firefighters and soldiers (srs)

Automatically being labelled as heroes. Keep in mind that I show nothing but respect for these professions but I feel it's a bit unnecessary to label every last one of them as a hero.

    Serious thread is very serious

Once again, in b4 I get negged

Hero till proven otherwise, sorry brah. Its a public service to society. So most consider them heros unless they do something to otherwise show they are not.

technically speaking they aren't heroes yet but they have a good oppourtunity to become one. I agree with you though, those who call them heroes are jumping the gun a bit!

To name this thread 'I'm tired of police, etc' you are setting yourself up for some angered people. I agree on the police, if they were heroes they sure don't act like it.

Re-worded. I see where you are coming from with the instant title of hero, but I again will state that these people genuinely face danger/risk of death on a day to day basis to protect/serve Joe Bloggs sitting in his office pushing papers.

Heroes? Perhaps not, but until a better term comes along, I'll stick with it.

hero-a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.

for the sake of not turning this into a huge argument, I dont believe that becoming a fire fighter, solider, police officer instantly makes you fit that description

I agree. Your actions make you a hero. Not your job title. Not all servicemen will do heroic deeds. In fact, the majority won't.

I remember we fought a fire up in Washington for 3 weeks right next to a tiny little village of a town. Kids came up to me thanking us and calling us heroes. Felt uncomfortable as hell, but was glad to see the smiles on those kids faces.

It's not just any dangerous job, it's done to defend the rights and freedom of Americans all around. Btw soldiers are just people in the Army, so I guess everyone else in other branches are off the hook.

Thing is, if Joe Bloggs saves a person by CPR or something (hypothetically speaking) he might be viewed as a hero for a few weeks or so. But a civilian who just enlisted in the army is instantly labelled as such...

I actually agree with OP here, there are tons on men who would love to be firefighters, police officers etc. They are both pretty sweet jobs, it dosent make you a 'hero' for doing them. I respect all of them but id say id have to give the most respect to soldiers, leaving behind family, friends etc. and putting their life on the line for ****ty pay and sh!tty living conditions to defend their country is pretty damn respectable.

Obviously there are some 'heros' but I dont think you can label everyone as one until they prove it.

I don't see a reason for you to be negged OP. You're NOT bashing anyone here, just stating your opinion.

I think those professions and the people that are in them are labeled as heroes/heroic because of what they sacrifice and put on the line everyday. Now I know not everyone in those careers live up to what their Department or Unit stands for, there's alot of sh*t bags amongst us. But I think gernerally speaking, just to volunteer to join one of these organizations is a heroic thing. Of course all this is looking at it from the positive, there's always some corruption.

Obviously there are some 'heros' but I dont think you can label everyone as one.
I agree with you. I respect their decision to take on such a risky job, but hero status must be earnt through heroic action. I'm just thankful people have the nuts/guts to do it!

there's a Patton quote that goes something like:

"those who demand respect based on their rank deserve neither"

i think that applies to this too.

You know I've talked to a few police and they said they don't feel like heroes nor do they want to be viewed as them. Good quote btw.

No kidding, the hero's are the ones who actually been to war and seen action or prevented something. Not the people who just trained for months and never done anything related to stopping a terrorist attack. Those are just good people with potential, but definitely do not deserve a title such as hero.

my cop friends don't view themselves as heroes either. they mostly do their job for personal reasons (thrills etc.) and they consider themselves to be sort of social garbage men

Firefighters are all heroes. Soldiers and cops are a mixed bag. Some of them are heroes, most are decent and some are the worst *******s that disgrace the surface of the earth.

    I repped OP.

Because its true. Not every cop, fireman, and soldier are heroes. That doesnt mean they dont deserve respect though. The majority are there for the right reasons, however there has to be the few that arent. We all praise those professions as they keep us safe, takes a lot of guts to do what they do, etc. Some may simply be motivated by praise tho.

There was a firefighter that started a HUGE ****ing fire, and I coudlnt remember the reason. And apparently it wasnt the first time.
