Can You Eat Too Much Protein at Once?

Okay, so I am on a cut right now, severe caloric deficit - 1700 calories a day. To try and fight any kind of muscle loss, I am eating a ton of protein - between 140 and 180g a day. This is very hard to do with whole foods while keeping calories so low. So, I have a protein shake, split into two servings, totaling 3 scoops of 6 star Whey Isolate, 20 oz of 1% milk, and one banana.

I drink the first half right after my workout (about 9:30AM), and the second half for lunch between one and two PM. Then I have a large, protein-heavy meal at about 6PM.

Anyway, I went to GNC today to get some more protein, and the guy there told me that if I took that much protein in that short a time, I would essentially piss most of it out and never absorb it. Is this "broscience," or is it true?

    Thanks,

    Rick

If your body only used what it "needed," how would anyone ever gain weight?

I think the concept is 1.Marketing & 2.A bastardized concept based on absorption RATES, not limits.

I eat 150 grams of protein on 1800-1900 calories without a single shake.
Can eat up to 60-70 grams in one meal sometimes. No problems so far.

GNC peddles a lot of broscience. But as far as too much protein, a lot of IFers (Intermittent fasters) eat only a meal a day with all the protein they need and they are fine. Nutrient timing is irrelevant.

Eggs, eggwhites, seafood, dairy, lean ground beef & turkey, 1% cottage cheese, chicken, pork tenderloin.

It's OK to use whey though, I am just saying it's possible to get this amount and even higher without shakes.
Also, I hope you count all protein and not just from animal sources.

Yeah, since my schedule is so wild I end up only have 30g in the morning and around 150-200g of protein in one meal in the evening. No problems either.

Well, I mean, I count what it says on the packaging, or online nutritional info. Am I missing something?

What I'd really like to find are some good high protein snacks. I hate jerky, and I'm getting sick of string cheese and cottage cheese.
