    Muscle relaxers and repairing muscles

I got the idea of taking a relatively weak muscle relaxer, such as cyclobenzaprine, at night after weight training earlier in the day. Something in my mind imagined that as a good idea and that it would be beneficial to the muscles, giving them better rest.

But on the other hand, perhaps it will make the muscles slower to respond to healing and growth. Does anyone know what the effect would be?

Muscle relaxants always act on the central nervous system to somehow reduce impulses to the neuromuscular junction. Therefore, acute use will have zero effect on muscle recovery, which has to do with myofibrillar repair.

Chronic use of muscle relaxants will cause muscle atrophy.

Therefore, your idea, while well intentioned, makes no sense.

I suggest you to avoid muscle relaxants and other drugs that act on the CNS. If you want your muscle to be less tight, do some light cardio and stretching a few hours after doing heavy weight training. You can do cardio, stretching and massage on rest days too. This will loosen tight muscles, improve blood circulation, and hence, improve recovery.
