I don't believe in this sort of nearly religious argument, but what's good for the goose, right?

Top US Companies Plan Layoffs Because of Obamacare
    Friday, 09 Nov 2012 04:00 PM
    By Bill Hoffman

Nearly a dozen top United States companies plan to start laying off hundreds of employees with the implementation of Obamacare, according to the non-profit political action group FreedomWorks.

FreedomWorks compiled the list, reported in Friday’s Washington Times, from statements made by the firms since President Barack Obama’s healthcare mandate was passed.

    The firms include:

    • Welch Allyn — a manufacturer of medical diagnostic equipment in central New York — which says it will cut 275 employees, about 10 percent of its workforce, over the next three years.
    • Dana Holding Corp. — a global auto parts manufacturing company — which warned of layoffs due "$24 million over the next six years in additional U.S. healthcare expenses.’’
    • Stryker — a medical device manufacturer — which plans to close its facility in Orchard Park, N.Y., eliminating 96 jobs in December. They also say they’ll slash 5 percent of their global workforce, about 1,170 positions.
    • Boston Scientific — a medical device manufacturer — said it plans to cut between 1,200 and 1,400 jobs, while shifting investments and workers overseas to China.
    • Medtronic — a medical device maker — which cut 500 positions over the summer, with 500 more set to be eliminated by the end of 2013.
Other companies promising job cuts include: Smith & Nephew — 770 layoffs; Abbott Labs — 700 layoffs; Covidien — 595 layoffs; Kinetic Concepts — 427 layoffs; St. Jude Medical — 300 layoffs; and Hill Rom — 200 layoffs.

Among the reasons for the layoffs: increased costs for health insurance and, in the case of medical manufacturing companies, a new medical-device tax.

    [end of report]

*** This does not even count the major restaurant chains that have already slotted to reduce their thousands of employee's work hours to part-time status in order to avoid Obamacare.

The entire healthcare industry besides health insurance providers are just like any other industry. The healthcare industry isn't the only industry about to layoff employees. This is one example, so no - no hypocrisy. Has something to do with being able to survive. Not in retaliation to Obamacare.

That's kinda like going to Kenya, and asking, in the same sarcastic tone, "I wonder if these huts were built by black men?"

Your question is merely a distraction to any "truth" you may seek. Hell, just ask Herman Caine, George Foreman, Tyler Perry, etc., and ask them the very same questions that you would ask a white business owner/entrepreneur.

Get ready for a dose of reality.............

    Darden Restaurants

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Darden Restaurants, a casual dining chain best known for their Red Lobster, Olive Garden and LongHorn Steakhouse restaurants, is "experimenting with limiting the hours of some of its workers to avoid health care requirements under the Affordable Care Act when they take effect in 2014".

    JANCOA Janitorial Services

The CEO of JANCOA, Mary Miller, testified to Congress that Obamacare was a "dream killer", adding that one option she had to consider "is reducing the majority of my team members to part-time employment in order to reduce the amount that I will be penalized."

    Kroger

The American retailer in Cincinnati, Ohio recently was reported to be planning a significant slashing of their hourly workers. Doug Ross writes:

Operative Faith (a mid-level manager with the company) reveals that Kroger will soon join the ranks of Darden Restaurants and slash the hours of its non-exempt (hourly) workers to avoid millions in Obamacare penalties.

According to the source, Obamacare could result in tens of thousands of Kroger employees being limited to working 28 hours per week.

Two or three of the following companies are in healthcare, but it makes no difference at all.

    Energizer -
The St. Louis-based company said Thursday that it expects to shed about 1,500 employees. When finished, the restructuring should lead to $200 million in pretax yearly savings, Energizer said. It aims to have most of its restructuring steps finished by the end of September 2014.

    • Westinghouse -
Westinghouse Anniston, the contractor responsible for shutting down Anniston’s chemical weapons incinerator, has reduced its workforce by another 50 employees.

    • Research in Motion Limited -
Research in Motion Ltd., the maker of BlackBerry smartphones, laid off about 200 people at its U.S. headquarters in Irving on Wednesday, according to a source close to the company who did not want to be named.

    • Lightyear Network Solutions -
More than one dozen employees at a Pikeville company lost their jobs this week. Officials with Lightyear Network Solutions said they are consolidating offices in Louisville and Pikeville to save money.

    • Hawker Beechcraft -
The company says 240 employees will lose their jobs with the closing of Hawker Beechcraft Services facilities in Little Rock, Ark.; Mesa, Ariz.; and San Antonio, Texas.

    • Boeing (30% of their management staff) -
Boeing Co. said Wednesday it plans to employ 30% fewer executives at its Boeing Defense, Space & Security unit by the end of 2012 compared to 2010 levels.

    • CVPH Medical Center -
CVPH Medical Center has handed pink slips to 17 employees. The layoffs — nine in management and eight hourly staffers — are part of an effort to “help bolster the hospital’s financial position in 2013 and beyond,” a press release said.

    • US Cellular -
The move will result in 980 job cuts at U.S. Cellular, with 640 in the Chicago area, according to a spokeswoman. The cuts are slightly under 12 percent of the approximately 8,400 total employees U.S. Cellular had at the end of the third quarter.

    • Momentive Performance Materials -
About 150 workers at Sistersville’s Momentive Performance Materials plant will be temporarily laid off later this month, officials said this week.

    • Rocketdyne -
About 100 employees at Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne, most of whom work in the San Fernando Valley, were laid off Wednesday in response to dwindling government spending on space exploration, the company said. The layoffs were effective immediately, and 75 percent of them came at the facilities on Canoga and De Soto avenues, which employ about 1,100 people. The company has six sites across the Valley.

    • Brake Parts -
The leader of an automotive parts plant in Lincoln County has told state officials that there are plans to lay off 75 workers starting in late December…The layoffs are expected to start Dec. 28 and continue in the first quarter of 2013

    • Vestas Wind Systems -
Vestas Wind Systems A/S (VWS) is seeking to sell a stake of as much as 20 percent and said it’s reducing headcount by 3,000 to raise the staff cuts by the biggest wind turbine maker to almost a third over two years.

    • Husqvarna -
Husqvarna AB (HUSQB), the world’s biggest maker of powered garden tools, plans to cut about 600 jobs in a move that will save 220 million kronor ($33 million) a year by 2014.

    • Center for Hospice New York -
The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care plans to temporarily lay off as many as 40 employees next year as it embarks on a major renovation of the inpatient unit at its Cheektowaga campus.

    • Bristol-Meyers -
Bristol-Myers Squibb is following up its lackluster third-quarter results with almost 480 layoffs. As Pharmalot reports, the company notified the New Jersey government that it would scale back in Plainsboro, which means the cuts will hit its sales operations.

    • OCE North America -
Trumbull printer- and scanning-equipment provider Oce North America, Inc. will lay off 135 workers in three Connecticut communities, including East Hartford, according to its notice with the state Labor Department.

    • Darden Restaurants -
The company, which was among those who had received an Obamacare waiver in the past, is looking to limit workers to 28 hours per week. A full time employee that is required to have health insurance (lest the employer pay a fine) works 30 hours per week, as defined by the Obamacare law.

    • West Ridge Mine -

Here is a list of most of the companies that applied for and received exemptions from Obamacare. The original list was removed from the http://cciio.cms.gov/ website.

I will not be doing business with any company that doesn't want to share in our new found prosperity. (I need that money to fund my new obligations to the government)

Let's make all the exempt companies foot the bill for our news taxes!

We should all just STFU and count our lucky stars! We should all be thankful!!! Thanksgiving is coming up, no? With the enlightened and comprehensively 'in touch' with the American people administration that we have for the next 4 years, we've got nothing but brighter days ahead of us! Just think, by Thanksgiving of 2016 we can all be eating a fried rat and delighting in the economic miracle that has transpired over the past 4 years, right before our very eyes!

No offence to you, BH. It is quite obvious to me that you have worked hard for what you have achieved.

Make no mistake. This is not a "race issue" to me. I would have voted for Herman Cain without reservation.

    Nah man don't sweat it.

One thing I am really noticing though, people get really pissed if the person they wanted to be elected doesn't..

I think I can understand that to a degree, but the amount of hate/anger people show is really crazy.

It is like people are going to bed and waking up furious about Obama winning. While I can't say I know enough to understand the frustration in some, I can't help but to wonder how unhealthy that can become.

IMO it is done with, nothing you can do now but move on with your life, life is too short to be so freaking mad at something that has already been done.

That would likely not be the case if both candidates came into it prepared to represent 100% of the population. In this case, it has always been driven home that this was an "us versus them" proposal. Hard working folks fear that they will never be able to give enough (or have enough taken from them), and success is vilified by at least half of those who have sworn to represent us. Oddly enough, those (in politics) who vilify the rich often live far better than those considered "rich" by the president.

With that said, it doesn't matter to me (honestly) that O got four more years at 1600 PA Ave.. I always find a way.

    Well said.

The election will not make a big difference to me, in the short term.

Being debt free, and DINKS (dual income no kids), my family is somewhat shielded from the fallout.

Also, being in a state with no state income tax helps.

Gather your resources, brothers and sisters. Hard times are coming.
