    Bodybuilding still as popular?

Yesterday I was at "White Water" a amusement park
on the outskirts of Atlanta, walking around and
having a good day with my girlfriend.

Since its a water park not a lot of people were wearing
shirts. Noticed a lot of guys were either skinny or fat
    but, not many muscle-heads about.

Whats going on here? Is it not as popular now with
    the younger generations??

    Oh I'm new here btw.

    Thanks for reading all.

The phrase I hear people using more and more is "Beach Body", which seems to me to be today's version of the word "toned".

No heavy lifting required. Just starve yourself until you have a visible 6-pack, and hit the gym every day for some cardio or TRX or bicep curls.

That said, 20+ years ago when I started not many were really into "Body Building" either.

Bodybuilding has never been "popular" with the masses. IMO, that's as it should be, and I like it that way just fine.

Funny, my world is so small that I interact with more that lift than don't.

Beach body == skinny. I did not know that.

I've been beaching it up good the last few weeks and I've been the only person who looks like they lift on the whole beach. I don't even see any smallish "beach body" physiques. It's been all straight up out of shape mother****ers, all age groups, and both sexes. Even the kids look like hell. Looking good has never been so easy! I don't care how popular bodybuilding is and if everybody was doing it then I likely wouldn't have any interest in it.

I spent a few days on the beach a few weeks ago..making people feel pretty good about themselves.

The fewer in shape people the better IMO. I'm 160 lbs and people call me brolic from time to time which is ridiculous hah but im not one to complain. You have to realize that most people don't have the motivation or true understanding of bodybuilding or powerlifting to realize what truly qualifies as "brolic".

Now that I think about it I did see one built guy but,
he had a huge gut to go along with it. Guess he was
    bulking or something :-P

Wish we could get Bodybuilding more into the mainstream
media. It would be great to see it as an Olympic sport one
day. Might get more folks interested in it.

That would be nice.Have anyone in mind that would look presentable enough?
I mean not everyone's going to find an overmuscled guy wearing what could basically be called "FAT MANS CLOTHES" appealing, and I think thats the crux of the matter, pros today when they wear a suit and tie are wearing suits that are big enough for a fat guy most of the time.

Look, you know as well as I do that people are lazy -- particularly guys over 35. Most guys have a spare tire, or they're skinny-fat -- so much so that there are adverts on tv about low-T. Maybe, guys wouldn't have low-T if they weren't fat and weak.

Bodybuilding is, simply, an obscure sport. It's a freak show for most people. Not everybody is interested in letting their freak flag fly. Most people aren't actually bodybuilders, they train with weights. The initial goal of getting big and strong by training with weights, not the sport of bodybuilding, is mostly attractive to those with low self-esteem and poor body image. Present company excluded. But, you get what I mean -- it's why every pimple-faced, gangly pubescent boy first picks up a dumbbell. It's why the guy in the Charles Atlas advert who's tired of getting sand kicked in his face buys the mail-order course.

Bodybuilding will never be as popular a sport as it was 40 or so years ago. That's when it peaked for the general public, in my estimation. The times are long past when people identified with their herculean heroes of the movies and the magazines.

    Carry on.

But honestly in my area which is a good sized area there are 2 main gyms.. which both kinda suck but anyhow I can think of maybe 3 bodybuilder type guys that train there. Everyone else is doing curls and ab work and weigh about 140 pounds. Which is cool its their time and their body.

Yup, most people think bodybuilder are freaks, but then who really cares what they think. I rather be a freak than a fat ass.
