Thomas Phillips - Adjust Technique & Deadlift With Style!

The deadlift has become very popular and is a relatively easy exercise to understand. I will focus on the advantages and disadvantages of leveraging yourself with the bar to lift the most weight for competition purposes.

Excellent DL Insight!!!

Tom - This is a great article, which I found to be extremely helpful in explaining exactly what my body is up to in the DL. As a matter of fact at times it seemed as though you had my very DL form in mind. I definitely fit the description of somebody who pulls with a rouned upper back and legs that tend to straighten out relatively early in the lift.

I certainly agree that the DL, though increasingly common, is the most misunderstood core lift. A lot of people seem to think that if done properly it will basically work your body just like the squat. The the fact of the matter is that like it or not you are going to use your back to a high degree in the DL, so it is best to just get clear about how to do that as safely as possible.

Maybe you made this clear in your article and I missed it, but here's a question: It certainly is a bit more dangerous to DL this way, but it might be that somebody with my build just can't do otherwise, and what I though was a vice is really a virtue. At what point should us "rounders" quit trying to correct correct what is typically taken as a problem and instead try to perfect the technique? I really doubt that I can pull conventionally without rounding to some degree, so this is an increasingl pressing (or maybe pulling) iss for me.
