It's the same all over the world...
Assuming that you live in the USA and talk about the situation in gyms over there, I just wanted to say that it isn't any different across the Atlantic, in Greece. Actually, it's exactly the same!!! The thing is, you can always find some sort of distraction, if you're looking for one. A good tip would be to plan your workout beforehand so you'd have a target time in mind and try to stick to it without wasting time.
However, there is one certain type of distraction I don't seem to be able to avoid; pretty girls around the gym! All is not lost though, you can always channel this "distraction" into fuelling more intensity into your workout (i.e. lifting more weights).
Bottom line, if yo'er willing to train seriously there is always a way...
