One week off ... or more
ACSM Man here:
Chris Zaino, you have just done a lot of people a huge favor. Many athletes overtrain and, hence, become very susceptible to micro-organism intrusions and joint problems.
I would like to add something to this, though. Some athletes may even need a longer break. Once, I reached a plateau in my incline bench press. I took one week off of training and was ready to go back. Then, my computer science professor gave me an assignment to do for the following week. Hence, I was forced to take another week off of training. When I returned to the gym, I was able to add nearly eight more reps to my first set with the same weight that I was stuck on before the two-week lay off.
Thanks,
ACSM Man
