Thumbs down

:S has dr. ryan heard of enzymes? or amylase? chew a piece of brown bread for a few minutes and it will start to taste sweet, that's the enzymes in your saliva breaking down starch into maltose (some people don't have this enzyme in their saliva, like some people can't roll their tongue)...

"It can take hours to break down an ingested starch and that is great if you are a marathon runner. It can be devastating if you are not." This must be the reason Ireland has produced so many world class marathon runners then?...oh wait...

Another wee thing I can't really understand is why he suggests replacing starch with veg if the lack of energy is a problem...you cant digest cellulose! :S Also, I think most would prefer their intestines were lined with starch rather than cancer, which is currently being investigated as a possible result of highly meaty diets, as I'm sure you are aware.

Please, if I have totally misunderstood the article flame away, but it goes against everything I've been taught and also common sense in my opinion...

Anyway, I'm off to cook up some spuds and brown rice

Going against the grain

This article is amazingly true. Props on the BEST article I have ever read. Dr. Damian Stanziano and David Ryan knowledge is superior to 99.9% of people on this site. This is information top nutritionists will know in the future which they have figured out today. Unfortunatly, It is also the most overlooked. Read it, follow it and it will change you life.

Maybe people need to read the article instead of flaming...

We've been told "carbohydrates=starch" so long that people can't imagine anything different. Where should you get your carbs? From fruits and vegetables, people! Most starches turn to sugar almost instantly - nutritionally, there's almost no difference between "whole wheat" and "white sugar."

Perhaps we don't associate Ireland with distance runners; we don't typically associate the Irish potato diet with low-fat bodybuilders, either! If you need quick sugar energy, eat pasta, rice, or Gatorade. If you want stability, eat something that endures. You guys understand this with supplements; it's the same principle.
