Thumbs down Periodization defined...

Periodization is simply a process whereby a person begins a program with high volume and low intensity. As weeks pass, the volume is slowly decreased, and the intensity is slowly increased until the intensity is high and the volume is low. There are 5 stages in periodization: Hypertrophy, Strength, Power, Peak, and Active Rest. A periodization program is something like this...

Hypertrophy Strength Power Peak Active Rest
sets=5 sets=5 sets=5 sets=3 maintain body wt
reps=20 reps=8 reps=5 reps=3 low activity
load=100 kg load=125 load=150 load=175

By the time you start the hypertrophy phase again, you should be able to start at a higher level. As you can see, volume decreases as intensity decreases. This concept is called periodization, and it was not defined accurately in this article.
