ephedra

Sorry...nice article Matt

But am medic and cannot agree with your evaluation of ephedra... it is russian roulette in pill form and should be banned.

It is just too much strain on the heart...and during your normal workout you are GOING to put a strain on your heart and raise your blood pressure... DONT ADD to that!! The heart is stressed enough by what we do ... it needs to rest and recover also ...it is nothing more than another muscle group... and we certainly would know better than to train a muscle group 24 hours a day ...No wonder some folks are having cardiac events....
One of the ideas of bodybuilding is to be healthier....taking speed isnt the way to get there...and ephedra is just a natural speed.

And all the warning labels in the world will not keep it outa the hands of teens...Please... I do not like seing a parents face when we are doing CPR on thier son/daughter.

Ok thats my 2 cents

Smile Say what?

Umm... LadyTrex, while I respect your position (and do not agree, obviously) you said something interesting there. You (wrongly) conclude that the heart is a muscle just like any other and that it needs rest, since "we certainly would know better than to train a muscle group 24 hours a day".

Just out of curiosity, do you take yours out overnight to let it sleep well?

No Matt ...while you are certainly NOT training biceps 24/7 you should not take a drug that is gonna load your cardiac system that much either.

And the heart is a muscle group that needs rest... you rest it reducing the load (work performed) vs training it (cardio).

Speed kills ... and ephedra is just speed ...no different than the white cross diet pills that were hot in the 70's ... and just as dangerous..yes it works.. yes it kills and thats the facts..

Nice try...

Ahhh the debate over ephedra. Heres a point to ponder. After Korey Stringer died in the Minnesota Vikings camp last year, everyone rushed to say that it was ephedra that killed him, and that it should be banned, and taken off the market! Well, after a full toxicology report, ZERO ephedrine was found in his system. That my friends, was not SPLASHED all over newspapers, websites and what not. That is just one example of ephedrine being trumped up to be something it wasn't. Plus, if you're so worried about ephedrine, how come you don't want to stake out the Starbucks of America, and protest people drinking coffee? I can sure tell you that the overall amount of stimulant taken in throughout the day from a person who drinks a pot of coffee, is more than someone who takes a few Xenadrine, Hydroxycut, Stacker or whatever OTC diet pill. Bottom line, people, don't overreact to substances. Ephedrine, like every other drug, is effective when taken in moderation.

Harvard and Columbia say it's safe, so I think I'll believe them instead of some crackpot websites or half-assed journalists.
