Anssi Manninen - Post-Exercise Nutrition & Supplementation: Research Update!

This is an investigation into the metabolic responses of high-glycemic or low-glycemic meals consumed during recovery from prolonged exercise. This is a good read if you are prepared for some technical jargon.

I fail to see how these studies of prolonged glycogen depleting exercises correlate to resistance training. There has been much debate on whether to use high GI carbs or low GI carbs. One thing is for certain, advocates of the low GI carbs always cite studies dealing with subjects that have depleted glycogen stores and/or have completed some form of prolonged exercise.

Any educated resistance trainer can tell you that weight training is not glycogen depleting nor is weight training prolonged by any means. So we have to ask the question, does anyone have a study that shows the benefit of low GI carbs following weight training? Is there a study where the subjects did not deplete glycogen stores and did those studies involve both high and low GI carbs for a direct comparison?
