Fantastic article. Thanks for including the videos. I feel very dumb, but I have been doing stiff legged deadlifts wrong for a long time. After reading this I incorporated SDL's (in correct form!) into my leg routine.

Thanks David.

Nice article David. lol...I'm one of those people who will still fight for the squat though :P I think the safety squat bar, with its cambered ends that bring the weight forward with the midline of the body, gives a great core workout.

But whichever way you look at it, deadlifts are a key mass builder.

Those videos... the sumo deadlift isn't a sumo deadlift and the video is in fact just the same as for the "quadriceps" deadlift.

Deadlift Form

Hi,
The man in the video does not seem to be using proper form. Before the lift, his hips are up and his back is rounded over the weight. This is one sure way to get a herniated disc / ruptured disc among other injuries.

The correct form can be seen at

KingRichard has a little shameless behaviour in the past. (-10)
Sumo Illustration

The pictures illustrating the Sumo deadlift are actually of a guy performing a conventional deadlift. In a Sumo deadlift the arms are inside of the legs, not outside.
