I was once a victim of this 4 years ago- I was all ready skinny, but I wanted to see what all these "goodies" were all about- and thinking they were "all you can eat" I quickly learned a month later, gaining 20 pounds - it clearly was not the case. I also once thought being a vegan was an all you can eat lifestyle as well- and it is if you only eat TVP lol- but just because something is labeled vegan, or wheat free and gluten free doesn't mean all you can eat- sure I learned the hard way but I know better now.

Thumbs up Good information!!

I happened upon this article when i "googled" cookie + laxative. I've had weight loss surgery and was looking for a recipe for low sugar cookie or muffin that would have a laxative effect because constipation seems to be a problem with some after this surgery. Our carb intake is reduced and we take iron supplements.

This article was concise and I have shared it with other members of the WLS message board I belong too. Many, including me, get obsessed about the number of carbs we have and perhaps believe, all too readily, that the low carb-high protein bars etc can be a meal replacment. I now realize that they can be--but only on occasion when there isn't any natural unprocessed foods avaiable. Regardless of the weight loss plan, we need to keep all the points you've made in mind.

I have also mad a copy for my family doctor and emailed it to my son who lost quite a bit of weight doing the "Atkins thing>" He's gained it all back and more because he can't control his portion size and doesn't get enough exercise to burn off what he takes in. i don't want him to ever face the obesity-related health issues I've had to face and/or need to have weight loss surgery.

Thank you for this informative article!!
