I think I've only made initial gains at best with machines. They keep you safe and take the guesswork out of a lift, but I got totally rocked when trying to shift to free weights. I have weaknesses that could be corrected with free weights. How awesome would it be to have even THAT much less of an excuse not to work out? The weights are in my bedroom. I'm practically staring at them.
I'm really glad that I read this article. I visited a gym nearby that wanted $40 of my money every month for a minimum of a year, and why pay that much for half-ass results?
