Most ideas seem good, but I don't like the sound of the backwards workout idea...

You're right, it is beneficial to perform compound, multijoint, lifts at the begining of a workout, followed by isolation exercises, however, this is simply meant to be used as something to change up your exercise program to avoid boredom. Not as a permanant change.
