Evidence for the zig-zag diet?
I would be curious to know if leptin levels would still be depressed by a "zig-zag" diet (for example, hypocaloric for a few days, iso- or hypercaloric for one day, repeat). My thoughts are that the research quoted here on speed of which leptin levels return to normal when refeeding, and on the effects of low leptins levels, seems to support that idea that a "zig-zag" diet might be more efficient at preventing depression of leptin levels (and the slowing of metabolic rate that accompanies that depression) than if someone were to just flat out diet. I know the zig-zag diet concept isn't new, but nice to know that some research seems to back it up.
Anything to keep dieters from getting depressed...
