Aaron Links - Days Of Yore & Muscles Of Magnitude!

How were these men able to forge these muscles of might when we are supposedly so far ahead of them in every area of fitness? Somehow, even with lacking equipment, myth-based knowledge, and inferior supplementation they became the standard by which...

Great article,__, and there ought to be more like them on on this site. A beautiful physique IS possible without punching needles full of illegal substances into your ass on a regular basis. I've often wondered if "champions" like Coleman ever wonder,__, how much of my sucess is a result of my own hard work,__, and how much is the result of my falling back, leaning on illegal,CHEATING substances?. That this dude is/was(?) an officer in "law enforcement" is a JOKE. He's representative of the worst possible message this sport can send out to the general public,__," lift hard,__, but if you want to attain any sucess in this racket,__, juice to the hilt".
For my money, the sport should return to the truly beautiful bodies of yesteryear,__, the Steve Reeves, the Leo Roberts, the Lee Labradas, the Frank Zanes,___, sure, these guys can't compare in size to the current crop of male bimbos,__, but they were beautiful. And most importantly, they were ideals that the average guy could(and wanted to) aspire to .
I mean, who wants to look like Coleman, or Cutler< or,__, and this is laughable,__, Priest?. These guys are ridiculous, examples of "way too much of a good thing".
I'm sure this post will be pilloried in the grandest way,__, don't care,__, I'm clean and am confident that my liver, spleen, kidneys, pancreas,__, and most importantly,__, my heart(in case anyone's interested, the great ahh-nold's undergone 4,__, count 'em, __,4 by-pass surgeries) will stand me in good stead till I'm an old man.

I agree with many of the sentiments expressed in this article but it starts from a false premise.

Dave Draper, Reeves, Schwarzenegger, Lee Labrada, and Zane drug free? Maybe Reeves was. The others were not drug free.

Perhaps what should be championed is a return to more human symetrical proportions that might SEEM attainable or natural looking. Good luck looking like those guys did without juice. They couldn't do it themselves!

I couldn't agree more. We're both saying the same thing.

Let me clear something up...

As the writer of this article I did not mean to imply in any way that the early boys of the wonder physiques were drug free. I agree that the Schwarz and the other major players mentioned by you were certainly not drug free, but most likely that Reeves was. I in no way intended a "false premise" (I think that was the wording you used...) and I'm very glad you both have enjoyed my article. I myself am in the middle of the game trying to perfect my own physique to magnificent proportions....so as always, we shall continue to wage the battle against the forces of iron and mind whilst enjoying the camaraderie that is true bodybuilding.

Thank you for your support, and I shall be writing more soon!
