How I Won The 2003 Body-For-Life Contest - Part 1: Weightlifting!
I would like to outline in three articles how I won the 2003 Body-For-Life Contest. This first part will be on weightlifting, the second part on cardio, and the third part on nutrition and supplementation.

I did the same, but with no win
Back in 2000 i competed in BFL myself. I did the BFL diet for the first month, but when i saw that i was getting "skinny and ripped" I opted for the ABCDE diet. "Anabolic Burst diet" I gained an amazing amount of muscle in the next 2 months (2 cycles of gaining and cutting) but to my surprise, did not win in my catagory 25years and up. some other joe did who was a lot fatter than me in his before pics. I went from about 165 to 180 in those two months, all my lifts increased. I looked freakin' awesome at my after pics too. Its a very good nutrition and training stratagey, but you nearly have to dedicate your entire life to it because of the amount of time it consumes, not to mention the dieting sucks the life from you in the second week.
Stats curently
5,11''
180 pounds
BF 10-14% ?

Jeremiah17:10,
when you started the BFL comp., had you ever previously trained?
The reason I'm asking is usually when one starts training, they see the most improvement in their first couple of months, then it seems your body begins to adapt to the overload and lose it's ability to grow even close to the same rate as when I first began, as hard as I try. I still make pretty good gains and improvements, but was thinking the ABCDE may not work due to my training for the past 2.5 yrs.
Do you think it is a good strategy for someone of any experience?

When I started the BFL competition, I had been training for about 6 years, since I was 18 during my freshman year of college; however, I had never been as strict and disciplined with my nutrition, cardio and weightlifting as I was during the 12 weeks.
I've never tried ABCDE though, I just wrote about it for other peoples' information. I don't think experience has any influence on the ffectiveness of ABCDE. Whether you've worked out 2.5 months or 2.5 years is irrelevant I think.

Absolutely! It would be perfect for your training experience. Again, of course, it depends on your current stats and your goals. As for me, I had been training, lifting for a number of years on and off, and had been lifting for a month straight before I began my first "heavy" phase of the program. I noticed a huge increase in size and strength in those two weeks, probably due to the excess calories. I'd say go for it!

You said, "when you started the BFL comp., had you ever previously trained?
I forgot to mention that I had also competed in a BFL contest about a year earlier. This was my second attempt. so I was no stranger to training

Thanks for the input. I'm going to do some more research on it, but i feel the best info comes from those who've tried it.
Thanks again

Scott you have definetly used steroids. I know you couldnt have built that body without any anabolic steroids. Getting all transformed and lean and cut is signs of steriods. I bet if you got a drug test you would survive it.
But one thing .. you do look good and I am sure women love. I guess you live life only once so why not take steroids.
Good luck man

I weighed about 160-165 in those pictures, and I'm 5'8". Does that sound like someone on steroids? You're probably one of those people who never makes any progress working out, so you say that everyone who does make any progress must be using steroids. You're like the people who criticize Layne Norton, Derek Charlebois, Skip LaCour, Jeff Willet, or any of the other good-looking natural bodybuilders.
Just reading your first sentence, "Scott you have definitely used steroids," makes me mad. You say it with such conviction and you have no idea what you're talking about. I've never taken steroids. If you had any discipline with your nutrition and training, you'd see that people can make progress without steroids.

I don't necessarily think that all steroid accusations are the result of insecurity. Replace "used steroids" with "busted his butt in the gym" or "ate big" and no one would call insecurity. Steroids are just another growth factor, like the two listed above.

what i'm saying is when people see someone who looks better than them, many times they try to make themselves feel better by saying "oh well he's on steroids... and i'm not" trying to justify why someone looks better than themselves. I know b/c back in the day i used to do the same thing until I learned to appreciate people's hard work rather than be jealous.

Thanks Layne, I've seen these same kind of jealous, insecure, lazy, undisciplined guys say you, Derek, Skip LaCour, Jeff Willet and other natural bodybuilders use steroids just because they don't make much progress in the gym.
