My reply...
Scott, here is my reply to the comments you had to share.
>I think people would enjoy your articles more, and think more >highly of you if you didn't say things, like "(if I actually had to >pay for tickets)."
That sentence was to indicate that, even though I get all of my bodybuilding tickets for free, I would still pay to see Mr. Rando compete. The point is not that I get my tickets for free, but that Mr. Rando is worth seeing in competition and, in fact, is an inspiration. In my view seeing him compete is worth the ticket price.
>I read your background on your main page, and initially I didn't >think you wrote that about yourself, until I decided to write for >bodybuilding.com and saw that we write our own backgrounds. >Don't you worry about people thinking you're arrogant? You >might be writing some great articles, but have you ever thought >that their value is compromised because people are just looking >to criticize you after blowing yourself up so much. People like >humble people, and usually look for faults in prideful, boastful >people.
Your initial inclinations were correct. I didn't write my background, but it is a background that is true and factual.
Do i worry about people thinking i am arrogant? No. I dont spend my time worrying myself over what other people are thinking. People are going to think what they want to think, independant of what I am doing. I leave the thoughts of others to those others - I worry about the only thoughts that matter to me, and the thoughts about which I can do something - my thoughts.
>I've read a lot of your articles. I read one of your recent article >reviews, and someone told you to get over yourself, and then >someone else wrote in ripping on your physique. If you're doing >something great, you don't have to tell people you're doing >something great, they'll know it.
You are right, people should never claim to be great.
I think you should read my words, instead of paying attention to your own reaction to those words. If you do you will find that I have never once claimed to be great. I wouldn't make such a claim, and I dont think anyone should.
People like Greg Rando are great, in my view. Wheelchair athletes are great, in my view. These people face tremendous odds, and yet they excel, and overcome. They are a fine example to us all of what is possible if we live each day according to our true purpose.
And as for what others on the message boards have to say, its my view that it is easy to bash another person. Its the easiest thing to do, and its great for someone with a fractured ego who needs to bash another, to feel a little better about themselves. As for me, I prefer to affirm my self-esteem by paying compliments to others, and being happy for them when they do well. There will always be haters who live on the message boards - people who try to rain on anothers parade. Thats the purpose they have chosen for them selves.
And really, if its not me they are bashing to feel better about who they are, it will just be someone else. So i dont take it personally.
Many people have psychological or emotional needs that they seek to satisfy, and bashing another person is one of those ways they turn to. When people are critical or judgemental, it doesnt say anything about me - it only says that they have the capacity to be critical or judgemental. So in the end, their bashing and hating have little to do with me. Whatever is driving them is already there before i came along - i just happened to trigger it, and if it wasnt me it'd be someone else.
So, I dont pay attention to people who are overly sensitive, because I cant control what they think of me. Its just that simple.
I think its also worth mentioning that I did a search for your articles on the website, as I had never heard of you. I wasn't able to find your name. After manually checking the writers listing, I did a search, and this is what the engine reported:
"Your search for scott lapierre did not produce any results.
We have over 10000 pages, and not ONE of them contains this word!"
You might want to look into that.
Thanks again for your feedback, and best of luck on the writing!
