Massive Eating - Parts 1 & 2!
In this article John discusses the fact that most people fail to realize their physique goals as a result of poor dietary planning. It presents calculations for determining your caloric need when attempting to maximize your muscle gain while minimizing your fat gain. This is a must read if you're not seeing the physique results you think you can achieve.

I loved this article. I know of too many people who claim they eat like crazy but can't gain a pound. That is complete BS. They aren't eating enough because if you eat more than you burn, you will grow, period. This article shows people that eating under 5000 calories a day sometimes doesn't cut it.

I liked this article alot cuase its so personalized the way you can calculate almost exactly what amount of calories you need. I liked the meals, except my only problem is alot of my day is spent in school, and i can only bring so much food with me, so alot of these meals wouldnt work for me. Can anyone PM me some meal ideas that fit this diet that are "portable"? The only things i can get at school are junk food from a greasemobile or anything at a bodega.

Portable foods are chicken, potatoes, fruit, yogurt, etc. etc. What isn't portable?

Great Article
Awesome article John. I really enjoyed the part where you discussed insulin sensitivity and its role in the diet. Most people dont understand how insulin works to create an anabolic environment in the body. Great article!

why am I growing if I'm not eating enough?
So the question is, why am I growing if I am eating only 4000 cals a day, when according to the calculations in the article I should be eating over 5k? In fact I am getting close to finishing a bulking phase where i put on about 8 kg (almost 18 lbs) of mostly muscle. I think everybody has had a situation like this at some point.
It is likely the result of the activation of several energy mechanisms which are not normally in play (glut1 would probably be the best known one). Plus, calorie composition is clearly very important.
So I think the equations:
calories in - calories used > 0 leads to growth
calories in - calories used < 0 leads to weight loss
are not an absolute statements, just good common sense guidelines...

I'm not so sure that I need to be eating close to five thousand calories like the calculations show. I think it works differently for everybody. My normal consumption is about 2500 calories a day maybe even less. According to the calculations I would not be able to even survive based on that number. When I wanted to put on some weight I simply increased my calories by about 1000 more. This worked just fine for me. I put on 10lbs in one month after being stuck at the same bodyweight for about six. However, according to the calculations again, I should be consuming close to five thousand, but I managed to do it around 3500. I sure this article is good in theory for the general public but I am a firm believer that everybody is different especially hard and easy gainers!

4700 calories
Ok, I guess I got sucked into this article and developed a whole meal plan to meet the need of 4700 calories. This is my second day and I am not sure how in the hell is one supposed to do what the writer is describing.
I am sick of constant eating and to tell you the truth the dang thing costs arm and a leg too.
370 g of protein 525 g of carbs and 70 of fat a day is hard to meet.
Really hard.
I will give this diet two weeks and see what happens. I will post back with results.

Excellent article. In contrast my Total Daily Calorie Expenditure was around the 4000 mark.
