Starts well

This starts well, but reads more into a "what to eat and what not to eat" kind of article. Most people should be able to understand foods high in saturated fat, sugar & salt are bad for them.

I think it would be better if you included a breakdown of the smaller parts of the label, the things people don't normally look out for. i.e. what amount of sodium you should look for, and the effects it has. also a bit more on those "hidden" ingredients that can make "healthy option" foods worse than the regular ones. You know, i looked at a jar of peanut butter the other day that said it had 25% less fat than regular peanut butter. when i looked at the label it was clear why. most peanut butter is 93% peanuts, this was 68% and had extra ingredients such as glucose syrup, meaning it had triple the sugar of regular PB!!

Anyway, generally a good article, a nice read.

Thumbs down

I agree that this article degenerated into a rather obvious list of the things to watch out for. However, when I read this part --

"Margarine that has less trans-fat is still a better choice than butter because butter is so high in saturated fat. Same thing goes with cheese, pick one that is lower in total fat and saturated fat such as mozzarella part-skimmed."

-- I scrolled back up to the top, expecting to see that it was written back in the 1990's! Advising people to choose trans-fats over natural butter? Especially when butter from range-fed cows contains small amounts of CLA? Come on! If Atkins proved anything, it was that saturated fat got a bum rap. I'm just incredulous that this was written as recently as April of this year!
