I am curious...how tall are you? My stats are very similar....I weigh 217 and am 6'1". You never see yourself as others do...and you look like a big mofo...so I guess I do too.

well stats are often deceptive as bone structure plays a HUGE role in determining how big you look. I have a friend, skip (aka abdominator) who is 5'10 and weighs 172 lbs, but doesn't look a pound under 200 in pictures. In the end how you look really tells the tale. My height is 5'10.5"

Hey Layne, Just wanted to say you're looking great. Question though - do you think you may be coming in a bit early, and/or is that your intention? I'm 6 weeks out right now and people at my gym think I'm coming in too early, but I don't, as I only want to lose about 1 lb. per week.

Man looking good, keep it up.
I just wanted to say thanks because when I was beggining I posted a really dumb question about using Pro hormones when I had just lifted for a year, you got in and said how dumb I was for trying to do that(It was a little more poetic than that: "%"·$&/·/·$%&moron,you are and idiot") Now Ive been lifting for two years, gained about 20 pounds all naturally and you know what? it made me a better bodybuilder, I eat better, train harder and will never try anything that messes with my balls.
Thanks for the advice and I hope you win in the competition
Best of lucks

hey man i'm glad to hear that and I'm glad things are going well for you!
Fit_femme- this was part of my plan... I am dieting very slow and i'm actually eating over my maintenance calories on leg days in an attempt to preserve as much leg muscle as possible. The reason people think we look 'early' is b/c they are used to seeing most bodybuilders being fatasses in the offseason and having to crash diet to get ripped in time. Unlike them, I am only losing 1-1.5 lbs per week and I will be even more shredded
best of luck in your contest
-Layne

Layne,
Thanks for the reply. Personally I'd also rather come in early and lose slowly - it's much less stressful! Actually the guy who told me I was early is a competitive BB, but the guys at my gym ALWAYS say "You look good now... you don't wanna lose TOO much." BLAH BLAH BLAH... they just don't want me to lose the booty, but they don't understand if I don't it'll be all over on the day of the show!
Thanks for the well wishes... same to you. Below are 2 of my most recent pics from last Saturday. I will be competing in fitness, but I still like taking shots of the BB poses.

Hey Layne, are there any pics of your competitors up on the net anywhere?
I'm sure you're not concerned about how they're looking since you can only worry about coming in the best shape possible. But I'm just curious to see the calliber of athletes that you will be going up against.
Peace

I dunno, I only know of my two friends that will be competing in the same show. Do a search on this forum for them... "Fletch" and "Abdominator"

To the guy who wrote the article, you need to work on the back a little more before your competition. Everything looks good, but the calves seem to lack a little bit. Good article because it shows how this young fella is working really hard to get ready for his competition. I have seen many like you in the competitive world, who need to calm down the hype a little before their compertitions and hit their weak spots hard. Your lagging back just might be the difference as to whether you finish first or second. Use the mind to muscle connection and you will feel a difference in your workouts because you seem to be ignoring some lagging details in the back that judges will notice or not notice.

"Your lagging back just might be the difference as to whether you finish first or second."
The back is pretty good, but I can see some details in the middle back that need to be focused on more for the next competition after this one, because I don't think this individual has enough time to correct some of these lagging parts. Hopefully the judges might just overlook the minor detail and award you the first place prize because your other parts are really good. Good Luck in the competition.

Your fat loss is going very well compared to your other pictures. I don't think the back is lagging too much, but I would seriously bring the calves a little up to par. You will have to figure out a way to try to give the legs, specifically the calves an extra workout a week over the next 11 weeks. The only problem I see other then the calves is the top part of the middle back. But if you're lucky and the judges sit far away, and plus you should avoid too many back poses during the group poses. I think your other body parts mascularity will get you first place. Just remember to give more front poses then back poses and you will be the champ. Great physique and good luck in the competition.

you guys are stupid
that was a great article and i'm glad to see your cutting is going very well Layne. The idiots and there "lagging back" comments are really stupid and they just don't know lifting. You guys are stupid because this guy has worked his ass off and you want to bring him down before the competition.

no, the criticism was pretty constructive and that i can handle.
Trust me guys I know my legs are a weakpoint. I have been hammering them for the last 2 years to catch them up to my upper body. I do about 2x the volume for legs that I do for upper body and I do them frequently. They are catching up. Just to give you an idea... this is my legs 18 months ago

Who the **** are you too call me stupid you dip ****. I've worked my ass off over the last 15 years and i'm just pointing out some weak parts on this physique. I know my lifting very well and i'm not gonna have some punk kid call my comments stupid.
The physique is very impressive, but it has to beat 30 other physiques to be qualified as the winner. Every physique has there weak points and the weak points on this physique is the lagging back in some details and the calves need to have more thickness. The gentleman that pointed out more front poses then back poses obviously has a little experience in competition and is giving some good feedback. In your routine you should bring some of those arms a little higher in the front poses because the overpowering of those arms will make other competitors look like twigs. Remember, you still have 11 weeks left.

Wow!!! The diffenrence in the two pics are remarkable. You have worked really hard on those legs to have that kind of muscularity difference. I understand where some of these other competitiors are coming from because I, myself have competed for the last 23 years and I have seen many weakpoints in the physiques of my fellow competitors. The middle back does seem to have its weakpoints, but I don't think there is much you can do now, but to work on your routine to highlight the Overpowering bodyparts.
My legs were my weakest points for 10 years and I never won first place due to my weaknesses. Over the last 14 years I have trained very high volume for my legs and they have grown to be my strongest points and I have won the overall for the last 9 years in my city. With the right volume your legs will grow to match your upperbody.

I have been reading the forums here for the last two years and this Layne guy has come a long way with his articles. I like the fact that he continously researches and lets his mind stay open for new and better methods to "better bodybuilding". Your articles are great to read and I enjoy your replys on the forums because you back your **** up with evidence.

I think Layne is hot. I like this site because I can see his pictures all the time. Sometimes, even in his cute green undies. Great body Layne and you're very smart with your facts and responses to others criticism. Great brains and nice body - I like.
