This article didn't really answer the question about calories from later meals being stored as fat. It merely stated that many people ate more at night. I have to admit that I expected better information (or, at least somewhat relevant information) afer seeing the title of this article.

<<<This article didn't really answer the question about calories from later meals being stored as fat It merely stated that many people ate more at night>>>>

that is why they are stored at fat. Ill actually do the math for you

between 6 and 11pm people were eating every 45-60 min at an average 700 calories per meal.

thats a meal a 6, 7, 8, 9,10 and 11pm 6 meals. adds up to 4200 calories after the time of 6pm.

taking into considerate the average person was 150 pounds, this number greatly exceeds their average RMR. You'd better bleive they'll gain body fat.

However, the time of day has nothing to do with it. If these people at the same number of calories at 6am they still would gain body fat.

Pretty simple.

The title "Got Breakfast?" sounded fitting to me because eating a sizable breakfast Does your body good much like the milk adds of old. The most recent milk ads have coined the phrase Got Milk? So I thought that would grab peoples attention and be a nice play on words.

In other words - I was poking fun at the milk ads. It wasn't meant to be the dawning of a new era of title making or anything.

But The areticle does answer the question - Fat accumlation is a result of calorie balance. If you eat too much (no matter what time it is) it will be stored as fat. And the entire article was relevant The hole thing centered on eating breakfast. In fact the word appears 8 times in the article.

What happens if I work nights and don't get up until 6pm, my metabolic rate must surely stop like everyone elses.

You're still not answering the questions

If you eat a bit breakfast, you eat less later.

If you skip breakfast you eat more later.

I understand that, but which permutation leads to more overall calories eaten? I would have appreciated if your conclusion actually told is in simple terms:

Is it better not to eat late at night if you wish to lose weight?

Recently the BBC commisioned a study into the Atkins diet for the Horizon documentary show. Contrary to popular belief the study showed that the diet
was effective not because your body switches to burning fat for energy but that it was effective because on a high protein/low carb diet people(without realising) reduced their overall calorie intake. Put quite simply the most significant factor involved in weight loss/gain is the total number of calories consumed - NOT when or in what form those calories are consumed - good article!
