Over the past year, I've purchased a good amount of supplements, and surprisingly, they've all worked to a certain degree, some better then others. Find out which supplements worked best!

Not much of a useful review. This was nothing more than an ad. Try to be a little more objective next time and offer some more info and variety.

This was a good review. AST is a leading product and it only makes sense that these were reviewed.

It wasn't a bad article. It had some good info. I agree, I could've gone a little more in depth, but it wasn't bad, or just an ad. AST is a good company, so if I've used the products, and liked them, it's not so much as an add. As I stated, I only used 3 AST, and 2 others, so it's not all AST.

Folks,
this is Jason Bennett, I didn't register.
Its good to see that you guys flame others and not just me. But again, here is a question for the first revieweres comments; "Have you tried all of the products he has put out there in his review? Has everyone else tried them?"
I have never used an AST product and thought it was a great review, I am pretty sure this person doesn't have a lab to do a real scientific review, so cut him some slack. The article really helped me, I thought it was a great "review" of AST supps.
Just don't be so quick to flame, he wrote that to help all of us on the supplement scene, I know he helped me.
I have a question for the author of the article real quick.
What do you mean when you say "bracket" your workouts at the top, I have never heard of that

of course... who wants a scientific review anyway when we can have someone review their experiences with the placebo effect for us.

It was my article. What I mean by bracket is to use them pre and post workout, "bracketing" the workout. Due to the negative feedback, I'm going to update it this weekend. Layne, what more do you want in it so I know what to put?

1. How do you know if something "increased your recovery capacity? And don't say soreness b/c soreness is not an indicator of recovery.
2. "It increased my strength by a good amount"- What is a good amount? Were you writing down your workouts? And if you were taking more than one supplement at once how do you know that a particular supplement increased your strength?
3. "The particles in this creatine are smaller, and have more surface area"... this seems like a contradiction to me. In addition, how do you know that smaller particles means quicker uptake into the bloodstream, can you provide a reference for this?
Will look more at it later.

I think it helps when the supplement up for review is compared to other well known supps on the market. Give an idea as to why the ingredients are better or why the processesing is better along with actual results. I once did a supplement review (trenebol-X) and got bashed for it, which is okay. I understand that it is pretty hard to fill everyones expectations as far as supp reviews go but still try to take the process a little more in depth.

Number 1, I'll put it in the article, but throughout the week I was lachadasical and tired, and my sports performance showed it, but after using the products, I was not as lacadasical and I was able to have my performances back when I did not lift.
Number 2, yes I was writing them down. I'll be sure to share that in the article.
Number 3, I'll find the study, somewhere. Saw it once, but forgot where I found it. I'll do some searching.
Number 4, I'm going to add the protein bars I've been using and flax seed oil I've used for the past month to the list.

Also try to avoid the use of the word "works". When you say that everyone reading it makes an assumption. There are thousands of people reading that and that ALL make a different assumption.
it works! Great Ill put on 30 pounds of muscle by next week!
It works! Great Ill be ripped in no time!
It works! Great! Ill be able to run the 100m dash in 8.86 seconds by next month.
Get the picture.
I know the general asumption is that it helps to add muscle mass. But I'm going to go on a limb and say that you didn't really compare muscle mass gains with and with out each single supplement over a 8+ months to actually asses if they "work"
know what I mean?

I get what you're saying. Like those diet pills that guarantee 10 pounds of fat loss a week, because they really work. This isn't like any of the others, because it really works, and you get a full month supply for only $150!
These are all great suggestions for the update. I'll say something like it contributed to my muscle mass gains and strength.

The problem with supplement reviews when they are done with anecdotal evidence is, the results might not apply to everyone. That is why this is best done in a lab setting, where you can quantify the results you got. Just saying "it works" does not really cut it. We want hard evidence that it works!

I don't think it was the plecbo effect. My attitude in the gym is never "let's see if this supplement works." It's always the same, not worrying if a supplement works or not. I always attack each set with the same amount of mental focus and energy.

I liked the review. Even though it did seem a little biased towards AST supplements, so what. This was an opinion article, and if the author chose to use AST products then his review would no doubt be on the products he chose to use.
A while ago, Big Red did a review on several AST supplements and didn't catch as much flack for doing so. Layne, I admire your persistance and dedication, but you are not the bodybuilding god you sometimes act like.
This was a supplement REVIEW, not a scientific study on these supplements, so what do you expect other than anecdotal evidence.
I myself have experienced very similar results from using the same products, but even if I didn't, I still respect the opinion of the author.
Overall, good article.
