Animalpak.com - Old Time Gyms.

Some things have changed over the years, some things haven't. Take gyms for instance. Gyms are for training, not for feeling or looking good. What happened to the old hardcore gyms?

Good article, in fact a damn good article!!!

Reminds me of this gym that used to opearte back in my hometown, but now shut down!!!

I remember going there a few times when I first started training back in 1994..This was a basic gym, just big ole burely boy's doing endless set's of squats, deadlift's, cleans, overhead pressing etc.... A meat-head gym basically..Not a curl-jockey type gym!!!

Hey,

A pretty cool article. Years ago in College I started lifing in the basement of a building called the "barn". Dusty, no windows, no air conditionin - just free weights and a bunch of big college kids.

Perhaps it's because I learned the basics of lifting here but the modern gym facilities sorta turn me off. For some reason I could get into a certain frame of mind much quicker in the atmosphere of the "barn". This same frame of mind is hard for me to get into in modern facilities.

Oh well, the entire Animal advertising push triggers a spark of something in me. Perhpas it's the recent attempts to make weight lifting fun, social and coed. Doesn't work for me.

I like the idea of intense real bodybuilding without the fluff or the distracting chicks. On the other hand, clean restrooms and a decent odor are welcomed by me.

Great article.

I don't much go for all the piss stink however, and don't screw with the Wall Street Journal

It is inspring, it makes me want to go lift now, even though I go to a lame college gym.
