I don't see obsession as a problem at all, when it doesn't cloud your ability to know what works and what doesn't.
I am obsessed. I eat six meals a day, every three hours, period. I take in complex carbs and healthy fats only. If I know I'm going somewhere where such food won't be available, I bring it with me. I work out with supreme intensity for 40-50 minutes, no longer. I never understood 2 hour workouts anyway. I never have that kind of energy. After 15 minutes on a given muscle I can barely contract it at all.
Taking it too far, in my mind, doesn't mean overtraining. It means not letting anything get in the way of your progress. Anyone who has ever succeeded has avoided such things.
On the other hand, I definitely agree that this article shows the problems with overtraining and poor form can do, as well as why to avoid certain exercises. I just think a truly obsessed person would never let a workout go too long or use an exercise that could harm him.
