Little brother is stealing money
I'm home for the holidays, and without getting into too much detail this is what happend.
My younger brother - 16 years old - is constantly stealing money from my dad. He goes into his wallet and takes $50 to $100. I know this because he bought about 4 games for his xbox 360 and i KNOW he didn't have ANY money.
Also I heard my dad complaining about some missing money yesterday.
So I confront my brother and tell him, "I know you took dad's money"
When my brother lies, he looks down at the ground. I've known this since he was little. And of course he does this and says, "What are you talking about you ****ing piece of ****. I didn't steal anything" (yes, he hates me)
Well, a couple hours ago I told my parents that I was 99.9% sure that he was stealing money from them. And they asked him how he got the money to buy the games and he couldn't even think of a good excuse. He just said, "I had it in my savings from my B-day" (his birthday was LAST JANUARY) and I've never seen a redder face as he told this blatant lie.
He's in deep **** now and I was wondering... was it wrong for me to snitch on him? I mean if he told ME the truth I would have just told him to stop stealing money. Mind you, I spent about an HOUR trying to get him to fess up but the moron wouldn't budge.
what do u guys think?

No you did the right thing. Your parents work for that money and it doesnt matter if its being stolen by a homeless dude or your bro, its still stealing. You gave him a shot to come clean, he didnt, he f*cked up.

Definitely the right thing to do. Your parents work hard for their money and to have somebody just take it is wrong. Not to mention the fact that they probably provide him with food, clothing, housing, etc. and this is the way he repays them.

You should beat his ass and teach him a lesson now while it's still early. Picture in 15years when he's doing the same stuff but he's stealing it so he can buy crack.

Maybe you could set him up next time and put a bill sticking out a little bit from a purse with a mouse trap behind it. That'll learn him.

You have done the right thing. I totally agree with what you did. I hope you would also help your younger brother to see his mistake. What has been done had been done. The more important thing is for your brother to learn from the msitake and not do it again.
Maybe you and your parents should consider keeping the money (or even anything valuable) secured. Don't let your younger brother have the opportunity to steal again.
Personally, I think things aren't that bad for your brother. At least, he still looked down when he lied and blushed when questioned by your parents. These show that he felt the guilt. Perhaps you could try reasoning it out to him that it's wrong to steal and, worse, to steal parents' hard-earned money. If he wants to buy games, he should save for it. Show him that it doesn't need him to save much each month to have enough money to buy something at the end of the year. He's still a kid (stealing money to buy games).
These are some suggestions I can offer. Don't know whether they would work for you, as our cultures differ (I only get to know about US culture through sitcoms and movies). But, I hope, they could give you some ideas for helping your brother.

listen lets say you let it slide and then ure brother would think it was alright to steal from his own parents since he's not getting caught. Most people won't stop until they get caugth so you saved the family from facing an even bigger problem in the future.

Hey Juels
You mean Americans believe in disciplining their kids with canes? The impression I got from the media in Singapore is that the idea of human rights is so entrenched in the culture there that parents are not allowed to beat their children. The parents could be sued. Is this so?

Dude for real, my little brother and I hated each other growing up. Your the older brother. You should havent told your parents. You should have beat the ever living sh** out of him. I know its harsh but waiting till your parents were gone confronted him again and if he lies again grab him by the neck. Scare him a bit. He will learn. We use to beat the crap out of each other and now were the best of friends. Its a part of growing up and stuff.
Next time he does it cause he will, kick the snot out of him. Your parents yelling at him wont help. I told my mom to piss off all the time till i grew up and realized she was right!

My dad used a belt every once in a while when I was a kid, but now I appreciate it and understand the discipline and respect he was trying to teach me.

I only know that every families have their own child problems.
Regrading disciplining their children is their private affairs.
Everybody always wanted a best solution to due with their child.
"Prevention"
When things when wrong, it happens for a "precise" cause.
Keep an eye on them and beware of the "centipedes" while going in the wild.
