/me cries ... McDonalds ... KFC ...

Hey guys,

Firstly i've recently started going to the gym regularly like 4 times a week. Im slightly podgy but not visibly (if you know what i mean) but when i lift up my top you can see a little fat.

I want to bulk up a bit and also become a bit thinner. But one of my problem lies in the eating area.

I eat a lot of food - mostly junk and a lot of coke. Especially when i go down town i have like burger king of kfc. I usually have like 4 fast food meals a week, usually because im with a friend and its fast, easy and cheap. I know you'll be saying to go with the better option .. but im hungry

Also, yea i know i need all the protein and what ever i need - but what foods have what in ???

Pasta - thats high in carbs right?
tuna - protein
eggs - protein (without yolk i think..)

More info is appreciated...

Thanks.
RR.

Hmm, i been thinking

Ok guys ive sorta got a bit of a shopping list - and whats more i know that i will buy the food and ill eat it.

So far i have :

Lots of eggs - like 20 or so (maybe 4 a day - 1 yolk)
Lots of tuna - maybe like 16 cans (they come in a 4 pack)
Lots of fruit - but IM NOT SURE what fruit i should get, i like apples oranges bananas.

Lots of milk - i mean like 2 carton thingies
Some lettuce and tomatoes
and that 100% wheat bread stuff.

------------------------------

Few questions:

1. What fruit shall i get, remember i like bananas apples and oranges.

2. Is it better for me to drink milk or water?

3. How damaging is Beer to my progress ?

4. How damaging is alcahol in general - can i drink like alcopop things?

Thanks guys.

non-instant oatmeal is the the plain kind, the instant-oatmeal that come in the little girly packets are bad!

Eating out?

Hey rabbit,

here is another option. Eating right sometimes is really a pain. It sometimes gets repetetive (specially on a keto diet) but if you're in a rush and wanna get some fast food, fork up a few more bucks and get some healthy stuff. All the fast food joints are trying to get into subway's market of healthy.

Take a look at Burger King, get a chicken whopper with mustard instead of mayo, and ask if you can get some type of salad intead of fries. If not then give your fries to your buddy and double up on the diet coke or water.

All you gotta do is take some time and figure out what is good for you and what is not then look at the menus. I know its not as good as a chicken sandwich meal but ... a chicken sandwich on its own is 750 cals. Plus fries and a drink your well on your way to fat land.

re cooking fresh veggies, a lot of them can be eaten raw: spinach leaves, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, asparagus tips, cabbage and more. you can dip them in dressing also.

Get a veggie steamer! Next to a Foreman grill and a blender, best damn kitchen tool you can own. You can use it to steam your veggies and rice too! And bump on the salad dressing as dip. Makes some uneatable veggies, eatable.
With a Foreman grill you can cook up your chicken breasts or fish fillets (salmon = yummy) and of course, use your blender to make up some oatmeal pancakes or your protein shakes etc... That's all I ever need. I never use a microwave anymore.
In regards to your question about milk or water. Definitely water! Drink it like it's the tastiest stuff you've ever had Your body craves it, so give it what it wants. Many people go without drinking milk... can't stay too healthy without water though.

Yes, it's a pain to plan ahead and make sure you have your healthy meals planned for the day. Yes, it's much easier to grab a burger, especially when your friends do just that. But hey, your body, your choice.
Stay strong, it's worth the effort.

can I eat a cheat snack post workout which is 3-4 times a week since sugar loaded foods are ok then? Like I ate a cupcake yesterday after my workout. I love chocolate covered custard filled doughnuts from krispy kreme- I bet I shouldn't have them though because of the fat which would slow digestion?

not carrots...they are a bad source of carbs,.. too high glicemic index, too fastly insuline raises..

hey redrabbit, im in virtually the same boat as you ( also in UK too )

im a bit "podgy" but you can only really tell if i take my shirt off. Ive decided to bulk first and then cut down.

eating the right food is whats been tuff for me too, ive made a few topics around about protein and meals on these forums as im still trying to get the hang of it.

what i did was first note down the high protein foods, and make meals out of them (small ones) and eat like every 3-4 hours. once a did this and hit the gym i was discouraged at eating at my local kebab place after knowing it would ruin all the hard work and time ive put in.

i still some times fit in some fryed chicken or millies cookie but i work the rest of the day (diet wise) around it so its effects arnt as bad.

now im on the verge of getting supplements, they'l be handy when back in school, and just today started counting calories, carbs, fats, protein etc.

just move into it stage by stage, doing it all at once makes it is a bit daunting and discourages you from actually going thru or sticking with it.

what i found after hitting the gym hard you want to eat the right foods to maximise the hard work that you put in, just let it happen naturally lol...

hope it goes well !
