training my gf help
my gf is 5'3 id venture to say shes about 125lbs Ive never asked for obvious reasons ;p. anyway im adivly into weightlifting and couple weeks ago she asked me to help her work out to lose 10lbs and tone up. The problem is ive never trained girls and the only conception i have of doing this is from watching personal trainers at a gym i used to work at making girls do very high reps and cardio. So how should i go about training her? make her do lots of cardio and high reps? or is there more effective way..btw she does not want to gain alot of muscle she just wants to lose fat. any adive would be very much appreciated and a effective workout plan would be even more appreciated.

cardio is good. I would have her go heavy though. Women don't normally get huge from going heavy. I go heavy all the time and I'm only 118 lbs.

Train her like a guy...lift heavy, moderate cardio...the highrep/ low weight/tons of cardio thing is no good...how do you train? She can do compound lifts (squats, deadlifts, bench, etc.)

The whole cardio and high reps thing won't work(very well). Of course cardio is needed, but not to the extent that some people do. High reps are pointless(in my opinion). If you can lift a weight for 15 times, it's too light to do anything.
Train her like you would train yourself. Women and men are should be trained the same..we're all human afterall. There's no "women specific" exercises..just the compounds that work for all.

I agree, just train her the same way you would train a guy. I train heavy myself and I don't have as much muscle as I would like... it just depends on the persons body....but there is a misconception that women need to train with higher reps and lots of cardio(for some people this may be good.....to some extent) but I would just give her the same workout that guys do....of course you have to make sure the weight is appropriate for her.

ditto what every one here says--have her do what you do, she will get buff!
That is awesome that she is inspired by you--keep on encouraging her, I love working out with my DH--he's the one who taught me how to lift

I totally agree, but, dude, you're in nwt?! You're my hero!! Aren't you cold?! Whitehorse is really cold right now. I can't imagine with the snow, so fricking soon.
Back to the post, yeah, anything over 12 reps is pretty pointless, imho, but at least you learn how to do the movement properly?! That's about it!! Cardio is necessary for heart health, and if she isn't doing anything right now, she should react to it rather rapidly. Her nutrition will play a crucial role in her fat loss.

I will get her first off doing cardio, as well lifting lighter weight more reps, and increase some heavy but nothing major maybe 10-15 increase! nothing more! And of course get her abs going with the things i do! what else do yall recommend! she is about 5'1 maybe 135, in the area! weight is a guess and that is what i think! so help me please!

What's her diet?? I loved doing full body routines. Maybe that would be something she'd like. I had a lot of strength increases when I was doing them.
