Do you guys think its odd when a black person tells you his favourite movie is
American History X. I was at a friends house today and for the record he was black. I was like lets kill some time and watch a movie, he said he wanted to watch American History X because he loves that movie...strange I thought

10-15 years ago it would've been strange but black people aren't as anal about racism these days as we make them out to be, a few of them are still uptight as **** but the numbers are on a decline lately

Why is it strange. It is about a racist neo-nazi that changes and sees that what he was doing was wrong.
I think it is a great movie and I'm sure alot of blacks agree because it really shows how stupid racism is.
Also, shows what happens in prison if you disrespect your crew.

So should every movie be done in both black and white versions so that nobody gets offended? I am black and I personally like the movie. I feel no hate toward me because of the racist people. That was what the whole movie was about. Being something not so positive, and transforming your life to something that is. Heck, are we disrespecting bigger obese or skinny people because we want to be muscular? There's a couple of good points in that movie. The first is racism wont get you know where and that racism can cause you your life and second, just like my signature says, dont think you got me cornered or my back against the wall, because the ones who you think got your back is the ones that will put a knife in it.

What's strange about American History X is that most people who watch it only remember the negative conversations about black people (like when they are at the dinner table and Ed Norton is claiming that the Rodney King riots were an example of opportunism not anger over the racist verdict) ... or they remember the curb stomping. Being that those scenes were so powerful, I think that the movie actually glorifies the negative viewpoints and the message is ultimately forgotten or missed by many people.
... strange but true.

Thanks for reminding me that I am long overdue for renting the movie and watching it this weekend. Ed Norton, by the way, got an Oscar nomination for best actor for the movie.

I always remember the curb stomping from this movie but it's a great movie with a great message no matter what race you are.
