why are so many drivers caught off guard after the first snow?
the city near me just got it's first snow. i can't wait to see the news tonight, where they'll report on the thousands of retard drivers caught off guard by snow. "OH MY GOD, THERE'S SNOW IN ALASKA? EVERY WINTER? gee maybe i should have put studs on." seriously, wtf is wrong with people?

i'm not looking forward to it. the general population dosen't know how to drive. i mean if it starts raining here people immediatly slam on their brakes and drive 15mph slower on the highway.

I live in Minnesota, and it's the exact same way here; snows every year, yet at the first snowfall drivers act as if they've never experienced it before. Understandable though. It usually takes a few trips in it to reorient oneself to the conditions. Frustrating, but hardly something to get upset about.

damn, have fun! there's probably a website with tips on driving in snow, but i'll give you a few anyway:
everything takes longer when on snowy/icey roads. if you're going to stop or turn ahead, start stopping a ways before you get there. give people in front of you PLENTY of room. this is a big mistake i see all the time. if there's a somewhat sharp curve in the road ahead, slow down BEFORE you get to it. if you slow down as you're curving, this gives a chance for the tail of your car to slide around.
EDIT: oh, and give yourself more time when pulling out into traffic.
if you ever find yourself in a situation where your car is starting to spin, give it some gas and point your tires where they need to go. this may seem weird, because you're giving it gas when you're starting to go out of control, but this will speed up your front tires (you better have front wheel drive) and get your car straightened out again. as i said, try to drive something with front-wheel drive. not rear wheel drive, and not four wheel drive. with those types, you can't hit the gas and get your front tires going faster then the rear ones.

it snowed a little yesterday and there was maybe a quarter inch to a half inch of snow on the roads. so i make it one block from my house and see about 5 cop cars and an ambulance on the side of the road. as i pass by i see a car flipped on its side sitting in a grass ditch, and another car that is totalled but still in the road. all this on a 2 lane road where the speed limit is 30. people really are scared of the snow
another time, last year, i was on the freeway and there was this blizzard. maybe about a 6 inches to a foot of snow on the road but there are slots in the snow where other drivers had carved out. im in a 4wd jeep and i pull up on this guy in a chevy truck who is going so slow, there is no option but to pass. as i got right next to him, he looked right at me and his eyes lit up wide as a deers. i dont think he knew i was there. anyways he freaked out and jerked his steering wheel which caused him to do about 5 360 degree spins until he ended up stuck in the median. all this when if he had just kept driving straight, everything would of been fine

Well I have never driven in the snow because my Dad would never let me last winter cuz he is retarded. I hope he will let me this winter or i will never learn how to drive in it. People probably get caught off guard because there was such a long break inbetween snow and no snow on the ground and they got use to no snow.
I have to drive in it with a GMC saffari. I've spun it out with just rain on the ground. I can't remember what to do when you start to spin out of control. I'm pretty sure it's 4WD or AWD. Do I hit the gas, break, or nothing while keeping the tires in the direction that I want the van to go?

lol, that's f*cking hilarious. i can see this dude with these wide eyes, ****ting himself. it seems like people have absolutely no idea how to actually drive in snow. it's like, they either totally ignore the fact that it's slick out, and end up in the ditch, or they're the person you follow to town at half the f*cking speed limit.

Snow, what about rain??? I'm originally from Mass where I guess people were more used to snow so rain didn't bother them much, but iin southern Maryland people do 35 in a 50 in the rain. Maybe I'm just the unluckiest fuy on Earth but I get stuck everytime behind one of these homo's. I'm not even gonna talk about the snow...

No. That doesn't make you a sick b*stard. Deep down you realized there was one less person in the world who sucks at driving. It's probably the guy I got stuck behind the other day when I said "God damn, just hurry up and crash off the road and die already so I can get to work. My bad...

Everyone should have to drive a pontiac sunfire in the winter. They go really good and you can slide around turns when you want too.
BTW everyone should be forced to learn how to semi safely slide around turns so they know how to avoid doing it when they dont want too.
