She did this cool trick on us today in class.

She handed 3 random people envelopes, that had a clipping of a newspaper article in.

She would stand in class, and hold a copy of the original of the article, so anyways, she said "tell us where to cut" and we told her to cut the bottom, so she cut at the bottom, read the top line off what she just cut off, matched perfectly with envelope number 1, did the same for envelope number 2, and even had a student cut the 3rd article where the class told him to cut it so she could prove there was no trick.

after he cut it, it matched evenly with the third envelope, keep in mind we told her where to cut it each time

how did she do this?

she did this before a critical thinking lesson in class and told us that if we pay attention in class, we should have the skills to think about the question.

we get extra credit if we get it right, but i think its just an awesome trick, how did she do it?

That is one of the most basic magic tricks there is. Probably one of the first you learn when you get into mentalism(besides number force haha).
