rippetoes

hey rather new to lifting, 15 yrs old, ive done my research tho, love this sight, ive decided i want to go on rippetoes and bulk up for next summer, and i understand that some light cardio is good to do alongside it, but i have volleyball plyos everyday afterschool for an hour and it is hard as helllll (probably due to the fact that im outa shape), should i just do cardio every other morning (or every morning) alongside the plyos after school to looze some of my fat (not too big, 5'10, 140, most of that wieght is fat tho, not muscle, cant bench much, like 45 ish 3x6) so basically the question is should i slim down a couple months and than start the lifting hardcore when the plyos wil b easy to do adn i wil b in better shape, or should i just lift after i get home from plyos, do cardio on the days im not lifting in the morn, and eat like a horse (all this could b tough with my schedule but i am determined and i can prioritize) thnx for ur replies

If you're 5'10 and 140 then there's absolutely no reason to slim down, or diet in any way. You're 15 and you're very tall, you're probably an ectomorph with glucose tolerance issues, meaning you seem to lack muscle and put on fat a little easier even though weight gain is still hard.

If you want to start on the right track I would highly recommend you forget about slimming down and begin right away with eating like a horse and using Rippetoe's program (great choice) to get stronger and add mass. Rippetoe has been known to put on 30-40 pounds on his athletes in as little as 4 months while making them a hell of a lot stronger. Even if you're holding a little bit too much bodyfat, the reason it's so pronounced is because you lack so much muscle. Start adding muscle and the muscle to fat ratio will get much larger so you will essentially still hold the same amount of fat, but more muscle will make you look much more lean.

Follow Rippetoe's program to the "T", eat like a horse, get plenty of sleep, forget about cardio at this point if you have practice everyday that's enough cardio for now. Tell your mom to make you plenty of protein, such as red meat, chicken, eggs, etc. Just eat and eat and I guarantee you'll put on serious muscle simply because you're new to lifting and you picked a great program to start out with. I wish I started out with Rippetoe.
