The peekaboo shower(not a joke)
Howdy
As some of you may know I recently started working at crunch gym in San Francisco. Among the many things that the gym I work at features is a a peek-a-boo shower. I had no idea what that was until today (been there a week, never thought to ask). As your going up the stairs there are glass panels and the men and womans shower are on either side, and when someone uses the showers, you can see them in the gym, or at least on and near the stairs. Not well of course, just a very good sillouette. Today going upstairs for my work out was the first time said showers were in use................this is either a briliant motivater (hey people are going to see my love handles better hit the treadmill) or the dumbest thing I have ever seen, I'm on the cusp
http://crunch.com/crunch/gyms/location.aspx?id=23
the link is to show that this is a "feature of the club"
chime in with a motivating or stupid to help me decide
PS I am showering at home

There was a scene and a one-liner from DiNero's old movie "Taxi Driver" that comes to mind. The drivers are standing around outside an all night diner waiting for a fare and one says to another "Ya know, I hear that in California when homosexuals who are living together separate, one of them has to pay alimony to the other." The guy who's listening thinks for a minute then says "They're way ahead out there.".
Wonder if Pres Bush and his followers know about this arrangement at your gym? hehe. IMO jack I think you're right to shower at home; at least you know it's your soap and if someone is peeping you've invited them.

Hey, this part of their "motto" doesn't jive with the peek-a-boo showers:
"Crunch is a gym, a movement which is growing as we continue to perfect our ability to create an environment where our members don't feel self-conscious, and don't worry about what others think."

There are at least 50 treadmills, about 60 spinning bikes, and an array of treadclimbers, efx machines and many many other things, plus a full size boxing ring and 8 or so heavy bags.
ps
In case I have not made this clear the showers are for both the men and the ladies gym, so...........its not all bad

Now, that shower wouldn't be so bad if there were another option - say, only a couple of the showers were that way, for the brave folk.

Only in California would you find such a thing as, "peekaboo" showers. Whatever. I will stick to my conservative midwest life.

Lets just hope you can't see the sillouettes of the women from the mens shower area....otherwise there will be towel hangers a plenty in the mens room...
Not sure about this idea.....but yeah, only on the West Coast!

LOL, not all gyms in California are like this This is the first I've heard of it and I've lived in the Bay Area my entire life. But yeah, if somewhere is going to be the first, I'm not surprised that it's San Francisco.

I tried out a local gym which assured me it had separate saunas for men and women (I had an embarrassing incident at a previous gym where I didn't realise the saunas were not nude, and were mixed...).
So I showered, grabbed my very small towel and headed to the sauna. To find myself dodging a group of men also on the way to the sauna. Yep, the saunas were same sex, but the corridor leading to them weren't.
Need I mention that the towel did not cover my assets?

And to think that the Congresswoman that represents that area is a 50/50 shot at being Speaker of the House...3rd in line to President. Be careful flyover America....a Peekaboo Shower is comming to your neighborhood. (that out to get their attention at the Tulsa YMCA)

If someone is inclined to present themselves in the "peekaboo" showers, then my guess is that they're already wearing gym clothes that are at least as revealing as the silhouette. Makes me wonder what the point is.
