Should i eat before my work out?

I know this has been asked before and i've read many forums and articles on the subject. But they seem to go either way. Some say to eat before the gym and others say not to. My goal is to lose body fat. I work out around 6pm. My last meal before this is usually around 3pm. So should i eat something before the gym or go on an empty stomach? My goal in going to the gym is to lower my bf%.

I weight lift. But do 10 minutes of cardio at the end of the workout. What should i eat before my weight lifting? I have been taking a protien shake or a banana before i hit the gym

Protien shake is better than the banana IMO, but from what I have read, it is best to get both some carbs and protien into your body pre and post weight training.
