Jogging, the best thing someone can do for they're body?

I was wondering, is jogging the best cardiovascular excercise? I heard it was first and swimming was second. But I also hear that jogging or fast running daily besides helping your heart and weight, can make you heal faster when sick and lowers your chance of almost any disease. Is running really this good and if it is why doesnt everybody do it...?

any exercising increases your immune system so of course running will technically keep you away from the sick bug. ecerybody doesnt do it b/c they are either a)lazy b)too out of shape to do it OR C) they are so lazy that they are so fat that they cant do it.

Cardio is good and everybody should do it. However not everybody runs/jogs simply because they don't need to. It's harder on the joints then say walkng on a treadmill or an eliptical machine, plus if you're 200+ pounds all that weight bearing down on your joints while running can be bothersome. Running just isn't functional for most bodybuilders.

I live with a lady who is obese my guess is 400plus pounds. Anyway my point is, I live with 4 people including myself. My dad, me my dads friend, and her niece. (No love connection) My dad and I are fit and the other two are kind of...not fit. We all just got sick recently with a bad flu. I was over it in like a day (I jog everyday) my dad, who is all ripped except a little beer belly was in the army when he turned 17 and was able to run 2 miles in 11 mins when he was my age had it for like 2 days, and the other 2 are still sick after like 4 days. Connection? Maybe

the only bad thing is that jogging is one of the worst things for your knees. cuz when you put your foot down is bent thus putting the stress of all your weight on your knee.

he Tabata Protocol--named after Izumi Tabata, Ph.D., a former researcher at Japan's National Institute of Fitness and Sports in Kanoya--is an interval routine developed by the head coach of the Japanese speed-skating team. (It's called a protocol because Tabata and his team took the speed-skating coach's workout and studied it to quantify just how effective it really was.) The workout consists of six to seven 20-second full-speed sprints interspersed with rest periods of 10 seconds.

In Tabata's study, the researchers found that guys who used the routine five days a week for six weeks improved their maximum aerobic capacity (a measure of your body's ability to consume oxygen--the more oxygen you can take in, the longer and harder you'll be able to run) by 14%. What's more, it also improved anaerobic capacity (which measures your speed endurance, or the duration you're able to sprint at full effort) by 28%.

cardio like this is much more effective then steady state cardio. these increases were seen by olympic athletes, not normal people.
