OMG Tokyo Drift woohoo! Its the new way of driving man! Its the new in thing!
Its a totaly brand new way of taking corners invented in Tokyo....its awesome! woohoo!
Ha, if you agree with what I said above, you suck. Have you never heard of rally driving?
There is this one driver, Tommy mackinem (sp?), who managed to slide his car round a hairpin corner in this way without brakes. He bounced the arse end of his car off the bank on his right which sent the arse end sliding to his left, turning him sideways and allowing him to floor it through the corner.
Tokyo drift and drift cars....ha

True, especially without brakes. However, my post was more along the lines of pointing out the fact that this is not a new thing invented by Paul Walker rather than say its an easy thing to do.

His name is Tommi Mäkinen
And I think the technique you're referring to is called the "Scandinavian Flick"...
Rally is one of the last motorsports that isn't completely tame, there's still exciting viewing in it... would love to start rally driving, just a bit expensive, that's all :P
I actually live in finland (home of tommi mäkinen) and yeh, I do tend to do some crazy driving as it is on the more rural roads (almost waiting for winter so I can have some RWD fun)

Didn't Mika Hackinin (sp?) get into for a bit? My favorite was always that german dude, **** I forgot his name its been so long....Armen Schwartz or something. He used to drive the celica.... one time his throttle cable went out, and as his car's coming to a stop he's yelling at his co-driver "Boot laces! your boot laces!" He hooked them up to his throttle lever, and ragged off pulling on the laces

nah, I don't think Mika Häkkinen ever did rally, he did F1 for a good few years, I think he's driving Le Mans or Touring cars now... Probably touring cars, I think in the german scene...

But I don't think he raced in anything major, those finnish rallies are done by practically all finnish race drivers, practically anyone can join in on them

ohh, drifting is fun, and cheap fun at that. My car is crappy! like a couple hundred dollars worth of junk, it's RWD though so I can drift like crazy on gravel and snow, paint job doesn't like it but who cares! For Drag Racing you need a decent bit of cash IMO. rally is a poor mans motorsport, i'm just too poor to be able to afford that too
the whole point of this thread I think is to say that drifting's no new thing...
