The top ten things food companies don't want you to know

The top ten things food companies don't want you to know
Posted Monday, August 14, 2006 by Mike Adams

The giant food corporations have one mission: selling more food and beverage products to consumers.
Succeeding with that mission depends on keeping consumers in the dark on certain issues such as the presence of cancer-causing chemicals found in popular food products.

Here are ten things the food corporations, whose products dominate grocery store shelves across the United States and other countries, absolutely do not want you to know.

1. The ingredients listed on the label aren't the only things in the food. Cancer-causing chemicals such as acrylamides may be formed in the food during high-heat processing, yet there's no requirement to list them on the label. Residues of solvents, pesticides and other chemicals may also be present, but also do not have to be listed. The National Uniformity for Food Act, currently being debated in the U.S. Congress, would make it illegal (yes, illegal) for states to require cancer warnings on foods that contain cancer-causing chemicals (such as California's Proposition 65.) See articles on the Food Uniformity Act.

2. Monosodium glutamate (MSG), which is added to thousands of food and grocery products through a dozen different innocent-sounding ingredients, imbalances endocrine system function, disabling normal appetite regulation and causing consumers to keep eating more food. This chemical not only contributes to nationwide obesity, it also helps food companies boost repeat business. See articles on MSG.

3. MSG is routinely hidden in foods in these ingredients: yeast extract, torula yeast, hydrolyzed vegetable protein and autolyzed yeast. Thousands of common grocery products contain one or more of these chemical taste enhancers, including nearly all "vegetarian" foods such as veggie burgers (read labels to check). See Food manufacturers hide dangerous ingredients in everyday foods by using confusing terms on the label.

4. ADHD in children is caused almost entirely by the consumption of processed food ingredients such as artificial colors and refined carbohydrates. Eighty percent of so-called ADHD children who are taken off processed foods are cured of ADHD in two weeks. See articles on ADHD.

5. The chemical sweetener aspartame, when exposed to warm temperatures for only a few hours, begins to break down into chemicals like formaldehyde and formic acid. Formaldehyde is a potent nerve toxin and causes damage to the eyes, brain and entire nervous system. Aspartame has been strongly linked to migraines, seizures, blurred vision and many other nervous system problems. See articles on aspartame.

6. Most food dips (like guacamole dip) are made with hydrogenated oils, artificial colors and monosodium glutamate. Many guacamole dips don't even contain avocados.

7. Plastic food packaging is a potent health hazard.
Scientists now know that plastics routinely seep the chemical bisphenol A into the food, where it is eaten by consumers. Cooking in plastic containers multiplies the level of exposure. Bisphenol is a hormone disruptor and can cause breast formation in men and severe hormonal imbalances in women. It may also encourage hormone-related cancers such as prostate cancer and breast cancer. See Plastics chemical bisphenol A found to promote prostate cancer in animal studies.

8. Milk produced in the United States comes from cows injected with synthetic hormones that have been banned in every other advanced nation in the world. These hormones help explain why unusually young teenage girls develop breasts at such a young age, or why hormone-related cancers like prostate cancer are being discovered in unprecedented numbers. In order to protect Monsanto, the manufacturer of hormones used in the industry, the USDA currently bans organic milk producers from claiming their milk comes from cows that were not treated with synthetic hormones. Even organic milk is now under fire as the Organic Consumers Association says Horizon milk products are falsely labeled as organic. See Horizon milk, Wild Oats named in consumer boycott of "false" organic products. (The solution to all this? Drink raw almond milk instead. Make it yourself with a Vitamix, water and a nut milk bag.)

9. Most grocery products that make loud health claims on their packaging are, in reality, nutritionally worthless (like meal replacement shakes, instant chocolate milk, etc.). The most nutritious foods are actually those the FDA does not allow to make any health claims whatsoever: fresh produce. See articles on food labeling.

10. Food manufacturers actually "buy" shelf space and position at grocery stores. That's why the most profitable foods (and hence, the ones with the lowest quality ingredients) are the most visible on aisle end caps, checkout lanes and eye-level shelves throughout the store. The effect of all this is to provide in-store marketing and visibility to the very foods and beverages that promote obesity, diabetes, cancer, heart disease and other degenerative conditions now ravaging consumers around the world. See articles on food marketing.

Spread the word. Email this article to a friend (see below).

fyi actual scientific test with results
The level of aspartame in a can of Diet Coke was found to be 0.06% by a food testing laboratory. The remaining cans from one case of Diet coke were stored under three different heat conditions for 10 weeks. Seven cans were stored in an incubator (104 degrees Fahrenheit), seven cans were stored at room temperature (68-70 degrees Fahrenheit). At the end of 70 days samples were tested for levels of aspartame, formaldehyde and DKP (diketopiperazine). The refrigerated sample contained 0.058 percent aspartame, 0.001 percent DKP and 53.5 parts per billion of formaldehyde. The room temperature sample contained 0.051 percent aspartame, 0.002 percent DKP and 231 parts per billion of formaldehyde. The incubator sample contained 0.026 percent aspartame, 0.010 percent DKP and 76.2 parts per billion of formaldehyde.

MSG, Aspartame are poison. MSG is not only addictive but cancer causing. Aspartame was originally made as ant-poison. Bet you didnt know that one eh genious? Rumsfeld was the one who came up with the brilliant idea to comercialize it in every sugar substitute product.

Might as well be informed, and try to avoid products and foods which are most contaminated. There's not much you can do about the flouride in water (proven to be harmful to humans), unless you own a upper grade water filter. Avoiding processed foods is also a good idea.

This is a good thing in more ways than one. I will agree with the MSG stuff though. It makes me feel like complete ****. When I stay away from all processed food I feel great. Solution: Drink more milk instead of eating processed foods. 2 gallons a day it is.

Everything can be a poison at a certain dose. Sodium will kill us in most variants, but one is necessary for life. Too much of most Vitamins will kill you faster then being deficiencies.

MSG is evaporated seaweed broth, are you really scared of seaweed ?
If MSG is so dangerous, why is it naturally found in food and is one of the 5 things we can actually taste ?

Quote:
A 1991 report by the European Community's (EC) Scientific Committee for Foods reaffirmed MSG's safety and classified its "acceptable daily intake" as "not specified", the most favorable designation for a food ingredient. In addition, the EC Committee said, "Infants, including prematures, have been shown to metabolize glutamate as efficiently as adults and therefore do not display any special susceptibility to elevated oral intakes of glutamate."
A 1992 report from the Council on Scientific Affairs of the American Medical Association stated that glutamate in any form has not been shown to be a "significant health hazard".
Also, the 1987 Joint Expert Committee on Food Additives of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Health Organization have placed MSG in the safest category of food ingredients.
So who is against it ? At least some of your others had major organizations in debate.

The only caution is some are allergic to the addative and need to avoid it or else they will experience the symptoms you listed.

And for asparteme
Quote:
Aspartame was discovered in 1965 by James M. Schlatter, a chemist working for G.D. Searle & Company. Schlatter had synthesized aspartame in the course of producing an anti-ulcer drug candidate. He discovered its sweet taste serendipitously when he licked his finger, which had accidentally become contaminated with aspartame.
Ant poison not found. Going to provide proof for that random statement ?

Since when did anyone think those guys on the planes were the masterminds behind the attack ?

Here is the biggest question. If all theses foods are killing us, why does the US and the industrial world in general keep pushing back the average life time ?

Last time I checked you absorb more formaldehyde putting on new clothes that haven't been washed than drinking a 24pack of Diet Coke.

Great post deisel66 if I had rep power anymore I would rep you.

MSG is evaporated seaweed broth, are you really scared of seaweed ?
If MSG is so dangerous, why is it naturally found in food and is one of the 5 things we can actually taste ?

So who is against it ? At least some of your others had major organizations in debate.

The only caution is some are allergic to the addative and need to avoid it or else they will experience the symptoms you listed.
Seaweed broth?? MSG can be found in many foods. Its the dosage that can cause side effects over time. The FDA categorizes it as "generally recognized as safe". But who trusts the FDA anyway.

Aspartame - The World’s Best Ant Poison

contributed by Jan Jensen of WELLthy Choices

We live in the woods and carpenter ants are a huge problem. We have spent thousands of dollars with Orkin and on ant poisons trying to keep them under control but nothing has helped.

So when I read somewhere that aspartame (Nutrasweet) was actually developed as an ant poison and only changed to being considered non-poisonous after it was realized that a lot more money could be made on it as a sweetener than as an ant poison, I decided to give it a try.

I opened two packets of aspartame sweetener, and dumped one in a corner of each of our bathrooms. That was about 2 years ago and I have not seen any carpenter ants for about 9 to 12 months. It works better than the most deadly poisons I have tried. Any time they show up again, I simply dump another package of Nutrasweet in a corner, and they will be gone for a year or so again.

Since posting this information I have had many people tell me of their success solving ant problems with this substance, when nothing else worked.

We found later that small black ants would not eat the aspartame. It was determined that if you mixed it with apple juice, they would quickly take it back to the nest, and all would be dead within 24 hours, usually. I have found that sometimes it will kill them, and sometimes it does not. Not sure why, may be slightly different species of ants or something.

Fire Ants: We got our first fire ant hill about 2 weeks ago. Poison did not work. We tried aspartame and the ants ignored it until we got a light rain. It was just a sprinkle, enough to moisten the Nutrasweet and ground, but not enough to wash it away. They went crazy, hundreds of them grabbing it and taking it back into the mound. When I checked the mound 2 days later, there was no sign of the fire ants. I even dug the mound up some, and still saw none of them.

How does it Work: Aspartame is a neuropoison. It most likely kills the ants by interfering with their nervous system. It could be direct, like stopping their heart, or something more subtle like killing their sense of taste so they can’t figure out what is eatable, or smell, so they can’t follow their trails, or mis-identify their colonies members, so they start fighting each other. Not sure what causes them to end up dying, just know that for many species of ants it will kill them quickly and effectively.

As with any poison I recommend wearing gloves and washing any skin areas that come in contact with this poison, and avoid getting it in your mouth, despite anything the labeling may indicate.

I suspect it will work for other insects such as yellow jackets as well, but have not tested that yet.

Yes seaweed broth is the source of the first MSG.

I gave you examples of the FDA, EU, Japan etc..... and nobody is against MSG. Hell you even had a reliable issue when you were talking about milk hormones because the world is divided (though the EU is against it for trade issues) but this is just plain not an issue. So your source is nothing more then a person guessing ?????????

I give you the real source of the additative and you post an idiot's opinion, great.

I give you the real source of the additative and you post an idiot's opinion, great.

And thats the only kind of pathetic response you can give when someone raises a theory or information you dont like. I take information that i believe is credible. When there are millions of people who raise an issue, i will look into it and decide if it is credible or not. Your constant denial doesnt change the information, nor does it change the reality of these issues.

lol Yes the govt is covering up all those people that reguarly died at 40 in the past. And is inventing all those living to their 80s and 90s, to the point that we are freaking out about medicare/ssi because the system wasnt set up to pay that many years.
If you think the government is somehow more honest than it was a hundred years ago, well thats your own "faith". I woke from the church of government, and i wont be turning back anytime soon. People like you can ridicule anything that sways from mainstream, i could care less. Keep being a pretentious bastard, while you deny the vermit and imminent decay of society and humanity which is being pepetuated by your trustworthy big brother.

Yet ignored the evidence that shows how it was really discovered ? I bet I can kill ants with lots of food and food addatives, that doesnt make them poisons.

PROVIDE PROOF not conjecture, not one person's opinion that turns out to be completely false

I dont trust the govt at all. I do trust reality though, talk to your parents and grandparents. Ask them how many of their relatives lived past 70, then compare that to the average number of people living past 70 today.

The rate of cancer incidence in society is alarming.

http://www.cancer.ca/vgn/images/port...ats_en.pdf.pdf

It's most likely from the things we eat and what we breathe.

It's most likely from the things we eat and what we breathe.
And the morality rate is dropping fast.

Maybe it is we are just detecting them more often ?

check out page 37-40. For men they are all flatlined or declinining (lung) except for prostrate. Women have breast cancer and lung (smoking ?) going up
