organic virgin coconut oil
does anyone here not buy into the general publics negative view of coconut oil and use virgin coconut oil for cooking? from what ive been reading, the negativity towards it stems from a few things like alot of the test data out there was from hydrogenated refined coconut oil, and of course the strong arming from the vegatable and seed oil industry. (not to mention the general conception of anything high in saturated fat is bad) But virgin coconut oil is a medium-chain fatty acid, which seems to have better health benefits than all the long-chain FA's which are in all commercial oils. Not to mention it doesnt get damaged and create toxins when heated like all vegetable or seed oils available on the shelf. apparently it was more popular in foods and used alot in the US before WW2, when the supply chain stopped because of japanese occupation of the south pacific islands where the major source was, and then big business of alternative cooking oils took over.
just curious if anyone uses it religiously or has anything to say about it good or bad.

This may be more anecdotal than informative. In Thailand they use coconut oil for things like keeping their hair and skin moist but not much in cooking. They do however use vast quantities of coconut milk which has a lot of oil in it. I talked my wife into stopping cooking with coconut milk, except occasionally, because my body just turned it to fat.

I've never seen coconut oil in food shops over here - but you find it in the tanning section at other shops.

If you are referring to VIRGIN coconut oil, that recently has been popular here in the philippines. They are saying it can cure alot of sickness and it wont make you fat. In fact, they are saying you can lower your cholesterol levels with that if you drink something like 2 teaspons a day. Lukamar stated something about coconut oil, I think thats different though. Virgin coconut oil was processed differently from the regular coconut oil. I think you can scan the web and there would be topics about that. If your question is have I tried it, yes I have.

I've used organic virgin coconut oil for cooking. It's a great substitute for butter. I'll use it to fry fish on occassion.

I use coconut oil all the time for frying instead of butter on certain dishes.

I use coconut oil occasionally:
Spread it on whole wheat toast instead of butter.
Add 1 Tblsp to a can of drained tuna.
Sometimes eat a Tblsp right out of the container prior to a workout.
And...
Sometimes even pop corn in it, along with butter.

I've been using it for all my cooking/ frying sun screen etc. I find the virgin coconut oil on the internet cheaper than health food stores. Also young coconut juice is incredible before a workout!!.... anybody else tried this amazing "plama expander" and metabolite remover
