Healthier alternative to birthday cake?
Don't know if this belongs here or not - but was wondering if anybody knows any alternatives to b-day cake? I was thinking of just simply cupcakes rather than a cake...that way there wouldnt be much of anything left over plus they are smaller in portion...
I was just thinking...one day with having kids and stuff I don't want them to develope eating habits like the ones ive had such a hard time overcoming...
thanks!

you can prob score some sugarfree style stuff...
most people on here are gonna say...just don't eat it and be a robot and only eat tuna and chicken breast for the rest of your existance, F that
Pick up some splenda half and half or splenda brown sugar and look up some ideas on google to cook...I'm sure you can bake up something ALOT better then you will just buy in store, hell you might be able to make some sort of penut butter whey protein cake like mixture.....
otherwise i'd say try and find something sugar free (check atkins style dishs for a quick fix)

I think cupcakes would be ideal. They'd already be portioned out into serving sizes so you could just have one, and because they're in cups you'd know about how many calories and such are in each one simply by dividing the total mix by how many cakes are made. If any are left over you can send one or two home with other people or take 'em to a neighbor and you wouldn't look like a chump trying to pawn a half-eaten cake off onto someone else.
I wouldn't risk experimenting and ending up with a crappy tasting cake for someone's special day.
There's also http://vegweb.com/
They have all kinds of vegan recipes.. meals.. snacks.. desserts, etc. That doesn't mean they're low in sugar and white flour but there are some alternatives.
I haven't tried any of their recipes yet but I'll have to give some a shot. I shoot food photography.. perfect job for someone trying to lose weight, LOL.. and I'm always looking for good recipes to make that I can use in my portfolio.

Well usually cake comes with ice cream, and Edy's has a good sugar free, fat free brand you could try. Not too bad.

You lived another year...let's just hope your B-Day falls on your off day. I know mine will.
As for kids, they have the metabolism to burn off a slice or two of B-Day cake. Provided you have activities for them.
I wouldn't want to force crappy (splenda/vegan) cake down the throats of children that aren't my own. I also would want to teach my child when to eat properly and when to enjoy life. (my hypothetical children)
Everything in moderation.

You could always use splenda in place of the sugar, a little bit of heavy cream isn't going to hurt you.

Dude just eat the cake.
What are people going to ask next:
"I need reasons to tell this girl I can't have sex, cause I don't want to miss a cardio session"
I am just joking with you man, but seriously enjoy the cake, and next workout just work a little harder and hit the treamill for an extra mile and you will be more than fine.
As far as your kids go its obviously up to you. But I would say let kids be kids while maintaining a healthy weight. They can be healthy without drinking whey shakes and tuna for lunch. Just make sure they are active and that they eat healthy foods for the majority.

Come on
eat your birthday cake. Personnally, i decided for my birthday not having a cake. So big mistake, eating a piece of cake won't be harmful to you and to your diet. I should know cheats meals i have done with only good resultats after doing them. Don't be afraid, i wish i can go back in time to have my birthday cake . Hopefully it's my mother birthday saturday.

Hey Mullins 5,
While this is definately a noble endevour, it wasn't really one day of cake and ice cream a year that made you gain all the weight you had. If you're worried about your kids, don't. You'll be their father, and you'll be there 364 of the rest of the days of the year to make sure they're eatting right and getting plenty of exercise, which in the long run is what counts.
On another note, no one wants to be the outcasted kid who's parties "suck" because their parents won't get 'em lots of junk food for the guests. Think of the psychological trauma they'd go through because the other little unhealthy brats tease them too much.
I can understanding you coming down from a lot of weight and wanting to keep it off and never revert or have someone you care about go down that path, but becareful not to make this triumph an unhealthy obsession.

I know a guy who actually did that. He couldn't bare to miss his evening jog and so he skipped out on the sex with some girl who had been fiending for him for weeks. Love it.
Oh and to the orginal poster .. EAT THE CAKE. My cut should be coming to an end around my bday and I'm going enjoy a nice ice cream cake all to myself.

This is sad. You're going to do more damage to your kids with this mentality than good. You're going to be one of those parents who won't allow snacks in the house, you'll pack them lousy lunches, and go with them to their friends' birthday parties to make sure they don't have any cake with their friends.
They'll end up rebelling, sneaking food behind your back, and developing eating habits far less healthy (phsyically AND mentally) than the ones you did.

lmao, wow, that is crazy, when I said that I never actually thought someone would have actually done that already.

I agree with everybody that says just eat the damn cake. it's your birthday. get drunk too.
but, if you don't want to do that, I'm gonna recommend coldstone. here's the nutritional info on their cakes:
http://www.coldstonecreamery.com/ima...3May06_153.pdf
some of the servings have as little as 350 calories. you can fit that in without ruining your diet. your diet won't be perfect for the day, but one day will not kill you.
