Hiking for 4 Hours...Did I lose muscle?
I went hiking with my friend on a moderate-difficult trail. It had steep inclines, close to flat paths, and we also went trail-blazing down a mountain. All I had was 16oz of water.
Since this was a long continuous (we hardly took a break, and if we did it was only for 5 mins) hike, did my body burn muscle to give me energy? I did have a shake (2 scoops Costco protein powder and water), and some oatmeal cereal before the hike.
Thx
p.s could someone tell me if the Costco Protein Powder is any good? It says it has
Hydrolyzed Whey Isolate
Ultra Micro-Filtered Whey Isolate
Ion Exchanged Whey Isolate
Ultra Micro-Filtered Whey Concentrate
Egg Albumin (Egg White Only)
Micellar Casein

you most likely burnt at least 3 lbs of muscle for every hour you were hiking.

Lol.. i don't think its possible to burn off muscle that fast. Don't worry about it dude, your muscle will still be there unless you make a habbit of this food-less hiking then you will loose some. Just stuff your face after it.

Naw man, I'm sure you're fine..your muscles might APPEAR smaller, but that's just because you weren't taking in a lot of water(16 oz is still really not enough if it was such an intense trail.) Don't sweat it, and pack a protein source next time.

Most definitely did not lose anything. Like what others said, you just lost water weight, which makes your muscles look "smaller," but don't sweat it(no pun intended). Just drink more fluids next time you hike.

I agree. To gain it all back as soon as you can, consume a tub of Cell-Tech.

Actually it was 3.67 lbs/hour. Check your calculations.

no, i go on 3-5 day backpacking/hiking trips and i dont lose muscle from it. if anything it strengthens me. Carrying a 64 lb pack up hills for miles at a time is very good conditioning lol.

Cell-tech is the answer. Consume a tub before you go to bed, and when you wake up you'll have regained all of your lost muscle, and most times you'll have gained a bit more.

Without steroid dude all your muscles will vanish away.
