You, on the other hand, are obviously in the poor self-esteem catagory. Therefor, I recommend that you focus less on obsessing about what one word means, EXACTLY, and focus more on getting enough self-confidence that being told, in ANY words, that you are attractive becomes a reason to believe you're liked.

According to most of my female friends, "cute" guys have a round shaped face with large, widely spaced eyes

They describe "hot" guys as having an angular face, prominent cheekbones, and a chiselled jawline with narrowly spaced eyes

When I was in high school I had about 14-16% body fat which caused my face to be chubby and more round in shape, all the girls said I was cute.

Since starting college, I've gotten my body fat down around 8-10% which allowed my face to become more rigid and angular with sharp jawlines. Now the girls say I'm hot

Actually yea, this guy is pretty much dead on. I was a fatty in high school, was told that I was "cute". Got a little attention from girls, nothing special. Went to college, dropped almost 100 pounds. Chisseled jawline, thinner face, eyes dont look as asian now. And yea, the chicks dig that a little more. Instead of cute or something gay, now its hot, good looking, etc. I wish I had lost all the weight back in high school though, because self esteem and self image plays a serious role in getting any females. And I dont think I knew what self esteem was back in the day. Oh well.

You can't just give a definate answer to this question. It depends on the situation. Read the situation, how she says it, who she says it to, and under what circumstances she says it, and you should be able to figure out what she means when she says it.

Example

You asking her what she thinks of you, and her saying in a emotionless sort of way "Oh you're cute" = not good

Her telling her friend, with emotion, or even you with a smile, interest, and emotion "You're so cute" = good

Cute when used by girls is a very ambiguous word. There isn't one broad definition that you can apply to every situation so just use your head and you should get the gist of what she really means.
