Pics From Musclemania Canada Show & Musclemag PhotoShoot
Ok im back from Toronto, have been for about a week now, just been relaxing, eating some junk food and not training for another week. This years Musclemania Canada Show did not go as planned for me personally. I was put into the heavy weight class, which makes no sense to me at all, but the promoter said so , so I had to do it. When I weighed in, in the morning I was classified as a middle weight. Then when I get back to the night show, I see myself listed as a heavy weight?? So I ask the promoter, why im competing has a heavy weight. And his answer was, cause there's only 2 heavy weight competitors and u look just a big as them, and it will make the show run better if there is 3 heavy weight competitors? That made no sense to me, but I had no choice and had to compete against guys that out weighed me by 10lbs of muscle? The evening before the night show I weighed myself, and I was 176.5lbs. The guys who I competed against weighed around 185lbs.. So in the end I got 3rd place in the heavy weight division. You can view the pics below and tell me what you think, I think I was easily 2nd place. My symmetry I think is the best out of the line up, my condition was off though.
Now why was my condition abit off? Well I had a awesome 4 hours gym photo shoot with Musclemag http://www.emusclemag.com During that shoot I had to drink water, cause I was lifting weights and if I didn't drink water I would have cramped badly.. Even after the shoot I cramped fairly badly because my body needed more water to hydrate my muscle from being trained, but I had to restrict my water intake, because I was not even suppose to be drinking water the day before the show, but I had to in order to do this photo shoot. In my mind it was worth not placing as well, to be able to do a photo shoot with Musclemag. Its always been a dream and goal of mine to make it to either Flex or Musclemag.
In the end I had a great time at the show, other then placing a disappointing 3rd. That was out of my hands as soon as I was placed in the heavy weight division. And because of this I choose to no longer compete in any Musclemania shows. Its time for me to move on and start competing at a provincial level and then at the Canada's which is the CBBF or Canadian Bodybuilding Federation. I had a good run with Musclemania, got alot of exposure i.e.: TSN / ESPN and other international TV Networks. Now its time for me to relax, take a year and half off from competing. And come back bigger, stronger and better for 2007.
I would also just like to thank all the people here on bodybuilding.com for there support and positive feed back, and for the negative feed back, cause that just fuels me to train even harder. If you want to keep up to date on my training etc.. you can always visit my web site or my myspace page @ http://www.myspace.com/nolimitz23
Thanks
MattT

That's outrageous. I can't believe they did that. How could you agree to go up as a heavy weight??
Looked pretty good, but I'm pretty sure water wasn't all that contributed to your softness. You could have done with a few more weeks of dieting. Honestly, even the worst of water retention won't hurt the most ripped competitor that much.
You held your own against those two guys well though. A few more weeks of dieting and you would have had them.

Yeh i have to agree with u on that, i could have used another week of hard cardio, but i hold water like a mofo, and the fact that i was drinking water the day before the show was a no no.. And made me look smooth.

Yeh Musclemania is more about putting on a show, rather then focusing on and sticking to correct weight classes. I would also like to see the credentials of the judges... Im not dissin Musclemania, they were good to me, but some things about Musclemania make me go hmmmm...

it was foul what they did to you. they placed you in the heavies because YOU LOOKED like a heavyweight? even though you weight indicated you should be in another weight class?..seems like someone in your class was some judges or promoters favorite. but you're still a winner in my book

Yeh now that im home and i have had time to process everything, what was done, was not right. There's nothing i can do about it now, im just looking forward to taking time off from training, might get into some more of the fitness modeling aspect of things, as i get alot of offers to do that in the mean time until i compete again... Here's a pic that shows more of the fitness model side of me rather then just bodybuilding..

Musclemania has made me and almost every other UK guy in a gym who sees MM stuff online or in mages go LOL or Mmmm
Mostly money, no way is it natural like they claim and its not geared toward bbers who compete. Fuk knows what they do with the testing money you hand them. Still you have had a good run there try IFBB they are a decent fed even if they are full of stupid rules and you got to put weider on a pedestal every time you mention his name its where the exposure is. Natty organisations are not great, go untested its healthy for the spirit! Good show and a shame about the heavyweight class there. You had no chance really - My opinions.
Hope you stay on bb.com with other shows your a good competitor and post some good pictures.

You were robbed. At fisrt I though you were the guy on right in pix, looking at big guy in center. Then I find you were the big guy damn. Robbed. At least the photo shoot is some thing the other guys didn't get.

lol my physique is much better this year then last, it was good enough to make it to musclemag? My condition for the show was just not as good as last year.. My back, arms, chest, delts, legs, and claves all have grown from last years measurments.. Plus im about 6.5lbs heavier then last year and my waist measures the same at 27.5''. So 7lbs of sold muscle gain in a years is good enough for me..

Thanks bro, i feel the other black guy did deserve to win. He was already a musclemania pro 7 years ago, and has been competing for 10+ years and is in his mid 30's.. As compared to me i have only been competing for 2 years now. So i have a long ways to go and alot of room to grow.. As for the guy who took 2nd.. Well IMO my physique kills his and im giving up 10lbs of muscle to him..

Matt, Matt, Matt....I always love seeing your posts, excellent physique always look good, but one thing i realize is that this time around your pre-contest pics that you posted look better then your contest pics, did you try anything last minute that might have made changes to your physique and do you think that you could've won the middleweights...regardless i still think you looked damn good.
never mind just read the second paragraph...yea i would've sacrificed my contest physique too for a musclemag photoshoot

Thanks bro. Yeh i think i would have won the middle weight class, i looked much bigger then those guys, and they were very happy i was not competing against them
And yes the thing i did last min was drink water day before the show for.. That smoothed me out for the day of the contest. As you said it was worth it for a spread in Musclemag..

I have no clue when that will get into musclemag, I'll email the editor back and ask him.. See what he's going to do with the pics and let you know. Alot of the stuff you see in the mag is 6month to a year old, if not older.. And yeh its time for me to move on from musclemania, after being screwed on my weight class placement. Im not going back.. I had a good time at the show, and I have nothing against Lou or Musclemania. I just feel its time to move on, when you turn pro in musclemania you still don't get cash prizes? what's up with that? And if u do get anything its maybe $1000-$2000 at max? I'm not concerned about the money, or making money off of bbing. Its just that if I kill myself in the gym for 3 months and all I get is a trophy and a t-shirt. That to me just does not seem right? I mean look at these spelling B contests these 5th graders are getting bigger paycheck then Musclemania pro's? lol that's just makes me laugh..
